Alright so I'm looking to buy a microphone for my PC. I currently make commentaries on top of video game gameplay, movies, and I have a podcast that I might start up. I'm looking for a microphone that will pick up my voice loud and clear pretty much. It will also be used as a mic in video game chat, but any mic can do that really. My budget is 60 bucks, and, if it matters, the soundcard is just the built in card in my M4A79t Deluxe motherboard.

I've been looking at the Behringer C-1, as it is affordable at $50 and supposedly sounds pretty good. Another question I have is that this mic requires a phantom power source? Is that something i need to buy separate.. :D

Also, whats the deal with the USB mics. Like the c-1 vs. the c-1u.

Thanks

Also, I heard that condensers are pretty sensitive, and my computer is kinda loud with it's fans, but I can turn them down some. Will that be a problem?

USB mics get their power from the USB connection and require no phantom power...

the C1 is not a usb mic and would need some sort of preamp...the C1u is usb though

it should be OK for recording near your PC...condensers are generally pretty sensitive but a C1 is a bottom of the range condenser and is more suited for podcasts etc...it should be fine for what you need it for

Alright cool...whats a good preamp to get that's not to expensive?

and is there a sound quality difference if I just get the C-1u

for what you're doing Id just get the c1u....

if your hearts set on getting a non usb condenser then many budget mixers have phantom power that would do...really the skies the limit but your needs are basic imo

I would go with kcearl's advice.
paying any extra money for the preamp and all that is really unnecessary for your needs.

Just pick up the C1U

alright cool
lowest price I can find is 70, but I can save a little more. That is the same price as the c-1 and a preamp though...

Thanks for the help!

Right, you COULD get the C-1 condenser and a crappy pre amp, but then you'd have to worry about the noisy-ness of the preamp, the quality of your A/D converters, different cables and adapters.
with the C1U you get all of that, and some of the components are would be better than if you plugged a preamp into your integrated sound card.

Alright cool well I guess I'm going to get the c-1u then. Thanks again for your help!
