Hey so I recently got the M-AUDIO Delta 1010LT audio card, and
I'm just wondering if I should do the installation myself, or if I should take it in somewhere and have them do it so I don't screw up my comp..... has anybody installed it before and is it easy to do?

Just follow the instructions that came with it. It should only take you a half-hour or so to do it.

Large companies don't package PC-damaging software with their products.

Ok cool, but it's not software, it's an actually card that you have to put
into the computer by taking the backing off and everything. I don't have a lot
of "electrical experience" so I'm just wondering if it's a job the average guy could
do.

Pretty simple. Just stick it in the hole.

You might consider the fact that you may have some static discharge and that could damage some of the chips if you come in contact...be sure to ground yourself to the frame before you try to install the card.

Oh...and dont forget to turn off and unplug the computer before you begin...Id hate for you to reply later after your trip to the emergancy room...lol.

It should be a piece of cake. Like Darrin said, just touch the frame to ground yourself out before installing it. And hey, you might actually have fun doing it. :)

There are tools involved. Can you operate a screw driver? :p
Its pretty easy to do. Follow the directions. The grounding advise is good.
btw, I use two 1010lt cards in my computer. They've been flawless for years now. Out of curiosity, what are you using in front of the 1010lts for preamps/ instruments, etc?

Half an hour? What's that, with a liberal application of dramatic slo-mo? :p

It should take you between 10 and 30 seconds to put it in your computer, and maybe 5 minutes to install the drivers.

I think that 30 minutes included time to remove the computer from its resting place, figure out how to open the case and drink a beer. :D

Uh, well I don't want to sound like an idiot (probly too late anyway) but I thought
the 1010 had built in preamps. I'm using a mixer in front anyway though. need
it for the phantom power....

It has 2 preamps. They're nothin special, and you're right, they don't have phantom power- I have the jumpers on mine set so that they're just line level inputs. What type of mixer do you have? That will really determine how easy/possible it'll be to get separate signals to the channels on the 1010lt.

Did ya get that card installed? :)

OK good, I'm using a Xenyx1202, it gets the job done. also, I'm using a mac, so I'm thinking i should go out and grab a basic pc to use for recording, because the longer i stare at the back of this thing, the less I know how to get it apart

Don't go off confusing yourself by using an uncomfortable computer. Use which ever computer is easiest for you to operate whether it be mac or PC.

Yea, well Im familiar with both types, but I use live Lite 4 and i dont know if it's pc compatible. I guess the box would say but it's way in the bottom of my storage closet.

The answer is just a Google search away

From what I understand from This Page the 1010 can be used on both PC and MAC.

I'm also pretty sure my EMU card came with live lite and it worked just fine on my pc.

I just checked my Software bundle CD and yes, Abelton Live Lite 4 can be used on both PC and MAC
