Why you should use the Verdana font on the web...

ADD -- blessing and curse
Verdana, the font that the posts on this site are made with, is a very clean, very readable font.

I usually suggest that people use Verdana for it's obvious readability. It will be reflected in your website. Especially if you consider other fonts.

Consider the following sentences:

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.

The first one is Verdana.
The second is Arial.
The third is Garamond.
The fourth is Times New Roman.

Do you see the difference? Although the Verdana and the Arial are both easy to read, Verdana is, by far, the easiest of the group to read. It's wider. They're all the same (default) font size.

Moreover, Verdana was specifically designed to be read on a computer screen. Based on this, Verdana is a much cleaner font for the web. Especially if you keep the font to around ten points. This is roughly 13 pixels. I tend to use pixel sizes, as they seem to be more consistent (this can easily be done through CSS).

Consider this, too. The capital letter I. In Verdana, it's pretty straightforward and looks like this: I.

In Arial, however, it looks like this: I

Is that an I, or a lower case L? You get the idea.

Just something to think about and consider when you're designing your website.

What about Courier New?

Though my favorite font of all is Liberation Mono Sans.

You can use whatever font you want. I merely made a suggestion.

Courier New is a monospaced font. Looks really professional, but I don't know how well it would work in a website, especially when it comes to various font sizes.

Let's see...

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog

You decide...

Even better...

Yeah, that was one of those 90% serious jokes.

I realize that people with an eye for these kinds of things genereally don't like monospace fonts, so I don't use them for design stuff (except for tabs and chord charts when it's really important that the user sees the text lining up exactly the way I do).

I'm a programmer, so I use monospace as much as possible on my own systems since I like all my columns to line up nicely.

Me too. When it comes to programming, I definitely do that. It makes the code much, much easier to read, as well.

Been using Verdana almost exclusivley for most website work for over then years now. :)

When I first got into web and multimedia work back in the late 90s...I spent a quite a bit of time trying out different fonts...thousands of fonts...
...and Verdana was the one that had the best *web* presentation IMO.

There are a few others that work well, for those times when I need to mix it up a bit with font choices...but Verdana is still my #1 choice.

If you're creating a graphic...you can get away with more "decorative" fonts...but for straight HTML text...Verdana.

What about using all caps and no puntuation while writing really long sentences full of highly localized slang and texting based truncations of words im sure this wud help u seem really hip and not at all annoying in any way to ne1 you shoud also turn off the speel cheker 2 further enhance the effect 4 the reader except this forum automatically turns caps into lower case letters so it didnt work properly without an edit

I'm sorry. My eyes started bleeding about half-way through that.

Could you repeat it please?
