Firestudio differences?

Ok so I've been researching a while on which interface I should purchase for my first. I've been debating between the mbox 2 (because it comes with PT) and the firestudio. Since I will primarily be recording drums (being my main instrument) I've decided to go with the firestudio. Ideally, I would like to buy the $400 version of the firestudio. However, there are also $500 and $600 versions of the firestudio. They all look the same and I have no idea what the differences are between them. Would I be better off waiting till I save up a couple more hundred and buying the more expensive version? What is the difference between them if they have the same pres and same amount of ins and outs? Can someone explain this to me?

Much appreciated!

Do you have links to the interfaces you're looking at? That would help...
As far as recording software, if you like ProTools, get the Digi stuff (you don't have a choice anyway). If you're getting started, there are PLENTY of software platforms just as capable.

In the same range as the Presonus stuff, check out the 8pre from Motu, and some Tascam and MAudio stuff. :)

$400 = http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product?sku=241723V

$500 = http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/PreSonus-FireStudio-Project?sku=241723

another $400 but is listed differently than the first = http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/PreSonus-Firestudio-Project-New-Open-Box?sku=423144

Sorry if the differences are obvious but I dont see any. In all honesty I'm looking to only spend 400 on an 8 port interface and I heard the firestudio has the best pres for the buck. But if the upgraded versions are much better than I'll just wait and save up another hundred so I wont have to get it further down the road.

If you feel that there is another 8 port around that price that is better please dont hesitate to direct me in that direction.

Thanks again.

those are all identical interfaces. One is regular price, and the other two are clearance/restock items. Make sure you get the same warranty. Otherwise, they're the same.

This gets talked about alot around here... http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--ZOMR16 I don't have an opinion on it- never tried it, but maybe worth considering.

FWIW, the pre's you get on any $400 8 channel unit arent going to be anything special. I have a Presonus D8 and the pres are just ok.

so i decided to go with the $500 firestudio, the guy at guitar center talked me into it, hopefully i made the right decision. However, I can't even use it yet because I didn't realize its a firewire 400 connection when the new macbook pros have the firewire 800 ports. So now I need to take a trip to the mall tomorrow to get the adapter at the apple store cuz they are the only place I've found that have them in the store instead of ordering them online. I would order it online but I'm too impatient and going back to phili for school the 4th so I wouldn't want it shipped to my house when I'm not even here.
