I have a Behringer 1002fx mixer. I would like to be able to listen to my computer soundcard and mic at the same time and only send the mic signal back to the soundcard. I have not been able to figure out the right set up to get this done. My soundcard is a simple in and out card.

Here is how I have things connected right now.
Mic connected to mixer
Headphones in the mixer phone jack
soundcard OUT to mixer tape/cd IN RCA jacks
soundcard IN to mixer tape/cd OUT RCA jacks

With this current set up I get a loop back of the soundcard signal. I have presssed every button on the mixer without getting the result I want. Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

Connect the left and right main outs on the mixer to the input on the soundcard. Pan your channel 1 and channel two pan knobs hard left and right. This will give you 2 separate channel that you can put into the computer without blending them together. Route the output of the soundcard back to the tape in like you have it. Your headphones should be controlled by the control room knob.
Make sure you press in "cd/tape to control room" and make sure you DON'T press in "cd/tape to mix".

Hi Jeff D, Sorry about the double posting, I deleted the other. Thanks for your help. I tried the set up that you suggested and I do not hear the mic, I only hear what is being played on the soundcard. I do see that the mic signal is the only thing being sent back to the soundcard but I can not hear both in the headphones. I'm a bit confused when you say to pan channel 1 and 2 hard left and right. The mic is plugged into channel 1 and there is nothing plug in to channel 2.

Progress.... what recording software are you using? You should be able to select input monitoring. I use Reaper and by default, input monitoring is turned off. But if I turn it on, it sends the signal of the track I'm recording back out with the rest of the audio... You may check the manual for your mixer. There is probably some way to send the main mic channels to the "control room" outputs...
