Optimizing My Laptop

I would like some tips on how to optimize my HP Pavilion dv4-1120us laptop. My wife got me an Emu 0404 USB White interface for Christmas. (she won't let me use it till then either) I have been using my home pc with a Behringer UCA 200 that came with one of their mixing boards. My laptop has Vista 64 bit and the Behringer does not have the 64 bit drivers, hence the new interface. Anyways what kind of adjustments can I make to my laptop to make it run more efficiently when I start using it to record.
