Hi everyone and I appoligize if this has been asked b4, but I have searced the threads and couldn't find an answer. I have a Teac A-3340S and just just purchased a 3340S. The only difference I can find cosmetically is the A model has the cue switch and the 3340S doesn't. Was wondering if there are any differences in the sound quality between the 2 ? Curious.

But you say they're both "3340S". Do you mean one is not an "S"? Can you post a photo? Not sure what you mean.

I have an A-3340S and the one I just purchased is a 3340S, no A in front. The A-3340S has the cue switch and the 3340S doesn't. That's the only difference I can see. I'll post some pics later as I don't have my camera handy. Also, I was not only wondering about sound differences but mechanical differences between the two ( other than the cue switch ).

I gotta see this too...I'm only aware of the A-3440, not an A-3340...

Pics attached ( i hope )

ok. hopefully the pics attached

and this is the A-3340S. only difference I can find is the cue switch not being on the 3340S.

sorry the first pics are blurry but you can see what I am talking about. and why i asked :)

The only things I can think of is perhaps 1st generation vs. 2nd generation, or they were thinking of releasing it as a Tascam vs. a Teac, then changed their minds? Don't know. Just guessing.

The heads and channel amp circuits were the same so I highly doubt there would be any sound quality differences. The head design and sync quality didn't vastly improve until the 34, when the sync response became equal to the repro response and made overdubbing a whole lot more workable.

Cheers! :)

Thanks Ghost. This unit had me puzzled. Still does as this is the only one I have seen.

As I remember it, the 3340 first came out around 1971, back when the quadraphonic craze was cresting and I believe the A version came out a few years latter to appease the growing crowd of folks who were using it for multi-tracking more-so then the fading quad user base. Then they went a bit further with the 3440 which simplified the sync switch matrix and added a basic pitch control and was the last one to bear the TEAC name before the TASCAM division kicked in with the 34-4 and then the 34.

Hopefully, I've got the order of all that straight?

Cheers! :)

Thx a lot ghost. I kinda figured that might have been the case but was uncertain and puzzled. I like this one but I miss the cue switch, but otherwise it works good. :D

Yeah, other than the cue switch, they seem identical and both units have simul-sync ("S"). I also think it's tiny modifications made to the models over a short period of time. If I'm not mistaken, there was a 3340 (no "S") which had a slider control and then another one with buttons (still no "S"). The ones that you have were probably later generation and immediate predecessors to the A-3440.
