On Friday when I got back from a business trip, my Egnater M4 preamp was waiting at the front door.
For those of you not familiar with it, the M4 is a modular preamp component of a rack-mounted guitar amplifier setup. It is an all-tube affair that houses up to 4 individual preamp modules whose designs are patterned after the circuitry of various well-known guitar amplifiers. Each module has two channels (with the B channel being higher gain than the A channel), so with a full complement of 4 modules I have an 8-channel amp.
I have mine paired with a Randall RT2/50 power amp which is also a tube amp. The Randall can be configured as a switchable 50 watt/channel amp, and one side has 6L6 finals and the other side has EL34 finals. So you can pair the the appropriate power amp tube with each module.
I got the modules that replicate a Fender Deluxe, a Vox AC30 top boost, a hot-rodded Marshall Super Lead, and a Mesa MkII.
It's an embarassment of riches, tonewise. I hardly know what to do with it all. I'll post some pictures tonight after I get home.
Lt. Bob, you really need one of these.
