Rock and Roll Manifesto - My Punk/Prog clusterfuck

Man I thaught Ace Frehley was singing when it started. Mix wise its good, I can hear everything just fine. But, it reminded me too much of that long ass Green Day tune on American Idiot (Jesus of what ?) :) . When I saw the size of the mp3 I said "Damn, Gregs doin a Punk Opera". Anyway, not my cup of tea, but its mixed well. And thats what your after.
Lol. Yeah I guess it is kind of like that song. :(

Not intentional. Thanks for checking it out.

I've had another thought. (I know, I know...) You know Sloop on the other board? He takes people's mixes and tinkers with them and posts the results, just for the joy of it. Maybe two out of three times, he does something with a mix that nudges it in an interesting direction. If he got his hands on this one, my guess is that it would wind up with a slightly lighter bottom or lighter low mids and possibly a bit more air up top. He does more than just smiley-face EQ stuff (in this case, one corner of the mouth would go down), but that's often a direction things take. I'm not suggesting you ask him to unleash his voodoo on this one, but having heard what he usually does to mixes, I think that's what would happen on this one. Something to think about. Fifteen, twenty seconds, tops. If it doesn't ring a bell, let it be a bell unrung situation.
Yeah I've heard his "remedies" for people's mixes. He's a butcher. I've yet to hear one of his "fixes" sound good.

Damn Greg, you've got a rock opera for the new millenium happening there-the Who would be proud! Pete Townsend has nothin' on you Dude..........:D

Awesome. Thanks man. :)

Not really sure what has happened to the kick on this with my cans, but at home, through my Rokit 8's, that kick comes through *loud* *and* *clear*.

My bad for the previous comment, bro. Your drums sound stellar.

wow ..... a nice piece of work greg ..... I like the 'dense' mix ......gives it some power and body ..... kick seems a little light to me but it's there ...... bass sounded fine ...... got the vox sitting well in the mix ....... nice all around.
A lot of musical changes in direction coming back to the original motif at the end ....... very cool, and not that easy to do.

I don't nit pick too much on mixes unless something sucks 'cause there's a zillion ways to mix something ..... a lot of it is personal taste ..... I like the Rickenbacher sounding bass sound at around 6 minutes .... is it the same bass sound throughout? If so then I like it .....

It's a busy enough song that I really need to sit down and seriously listen to it to really digest everything that's there.
I probably never will but if there was a song I might do that for, this would be it.

:)

It is. He's gone all Billy Joel. I blame the drugs.

And there you have it. Wisdom. If I knew how to give someone points on this board, I'd give him points.

Ha! And that's my evidence, Your Honor, about the bass. See, if the esteemed Bobster could actually *hear* the bass, he'd never have had to ask that question about whether it was the same bass sound throughout. Ha! Case dismissed!

You'll be famous one of these days. Both of you.

Thanks Boob. I appreciate the listen and comments. To be perfectly honest, I almost asked you for some sax on this. Instead of the straight piano part, my original idea was to have a sax/piano dueling solo. I'm weird about other people playing on my original stuff though, so I scrapped the idea. :o

The bass is the same throughout - except for the distorted part in the middle.

It's no problem dude. I appreciate the comments. The kick doesn't sound that great on my cans either. It seems to sound fine everywhere else - so far. Next week it might sound like total ass to me. I usually use my headphones as a last reference.

Wow! It's like if Thick as a Brick were compressed down to 9 minutes and redone as an anthem about about how cool rock music is (instead of being about whatever the heck Thick as a Brick is about)... and was also... you know... not boring.

well, I'm honored to have 'almost' been asked to play on it ...... that's more than many ever get.

:)

And if it occurs to you to try something like that in the future let me know ...... I kinda specialize in that ya' know.
I might be able to read your mind and play exactly what you would have played if you played sax ....... I'm pretty amazing.
:D:D:D

Thanks but I'm over it. I really hate saxes. They sound terrible and there's nothing worse than a sax solo. :D

Lol. Holy crap I hate Jethro Tull.

Thanks for checking it out.

because it draws all the attention away from your feeble attempts to make something musical.

:D:D

(they need the laughings smiley here .........)

Maybe, but that doesn't change the fact that saxes in rock are cheesey as fuck. :D

I gotta find that collab I did with G ...... added saxes to Parasite by Kiss.

It fucking rocks too!

:D

Cool. There is a great deal of awesomeness packed in here :). I've known this one was coming for a while and while I guess I expected it to be more out there or whatever (more progressive?), it is also more fun and punkish than I expected.

Bass sounds awesome. Can't hear the kick much on my phones, but I downloaded it and may actually burn this one to disc and crank it on the stereo to get the full effect (I don't do that very often). I listened once last night on bookshelf speakers w/ sub and don't remember any lack of kick.

You almost lost me for a bit on the distorto bass section - I just wanted a little sumpin' else in there I guess, but it picked back up again in a hurry.

Love the jam that comes out of the angus young riff!!!

ALso really liked that little thing from 1:07 to 1:10! If I had that thing going, I probably would've tried to build a whole song around it :p, but you show restraint by throwing just a taste of it in there and leaving one wishing for more, which is smart. It made quite an impression for just 3 seconds!

Things seem more spread out panning-wise than I remember from your other recordings. I really like that effect...unless I'm wrong, in which case, nevermind :o.

Anyway, as usual, no helpful advice or anything, but I just wanted to acknowledge what must have been a lot of hard work. This came out very nice indeed!

Thanks a lot heat. Yeah I'm starting to think that the distorted bass section could use a little something else in there. Maybe some birds chirping or something. :D

By the time this one goes on the album, I'm sure I'll think of more stuff to add. I didn't want it to get too out there, but this thing is like full on Dream Theater compared to my usual crap. :D

I still don't know about the kick. So far it seems fine to me. But, I'm not opposed to jacking it up louder. I will say though that I split the kick track into two tracks. The slower parts have an extra reverb added just to the kick. It seems reasonably big to me. The more upbeat sections are left alone.

I'm listening on crappy computer speakers hooked up to a crappy laptop. I hear the kick crystal clear. That's all I have to say, I guess. Except, is this almost over yet? Shit, over four minutes left! :D

Hey, the riff in the break that you ripped off Angus Young is pretty cool.

One question: Do you want to, uh, Rock? I'm not clear enough on that. :D

love it!!!!!!!!
Thanks. :)

Yes, in most cases, I do indeed want to rock. ;)
