I am gonna get a new interface. I have it narrowed down to two. The
Emu 0404 USB 2 Audio/MIDI Interface and the Lexicon Ionix U22 USB 2.0 Recording Audio Interface. If you have any experience with either of these let me know or just let me know which you think is best or if you know an interface that is better in the same price range ($200 - $250) let me know.

I will never buy anything from Emu / Creative.

I'm curious how you arrived at these 2? There are alot of choices for 2 channel interfaces in this price range...

I came up with these 2 interfaces because my computer has the 64 bit windows and it does not have a firewire port.

Creative has a long history of making poor quality gear- I think they spend their money on marketing instead of quality. I've owned several pieces from Creative over the years and they've all been a disappointment. Emu is made by Creative. Emu has a long history of poorly thought out and poorly functioning drivers. I think if you do a search for Emu around here, you'll mostly find a) people considering buying Emu and then b) someone having trouble making their Emu purchase work.

In your price range and the features your looking for (or at least the features those other 2 have), check out MAudio too.

So, are we talking laptop or desktop? Adding a firewire card might be a worthwhile investment to make one of the others work.

I don't have an experience with the 64bit OS, so I havent researched it, and dont know what trouble you'll find or who has their shit together. Maybe someone here will chime in with their experiences.

I wouldn't rule out the Lexicon that you posted either if you've researched it and are comfortable that it'll work for ya. The reason I asked how you narrowed it down to the 2 you did, was because they arent really the 2 most popular or talked about interfaces. I follow your logic though...

I am gonna be using a laptop. I can add firewire via expresscard, I think that is what it is called. I am gonna primarily be recording bluegrass, so acoustic instruments and vocals. I like to do recordings one track at a time so I shouldn't need more than 2 inputs. I own a lexicon lambda and it never worked right. It always had a buzz. I have been using a Behringer interface that comes with their mixing boards, which does ok but I just don't like the sound that I get when recording acoustic instruments.

There are all sorts of opinions.
I recommend the M Audio Fast Track Pro because I know it well.
Others will have their own favourites to tell you about but ultimately you'll want to read the reviews on as many interfaces as possible.
Good Luck!

The Lexicon LOOKS like it would be a good purchase, but I wouldn't want effects (reverb) built-in...seeing that recording a dry signal is usually best.

Totally agreed. Well, I guess technically, having them isn't the problem- using them would be the problem. Just be sufficient to just not use them.

that Yamaha looks like it only does 16bit / 44.1k audio... But its cheap enough that I'd still consider it. :)

PreSonus FIREBOX 24-bit/96kHz FireWire Recording System

This would defiantly be my first choice for what you need. By far.

M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface

Would be my second choice. I would personally go with the Presonus though. I've had a Presonus Tubepre for quite some time and have had no troubles with it. As well, I think I may be heading to a Firestudio here pretty soon.

Hardware wise, totally agree. I think he's shopping based only (or mostly) on 64driver availibility.

Personally, I'd just buy one of the units Doug just listed at a local store and make sure you can return it if you cant get the drivers worked out. I would speculate that up to half of the "driver issues" you read about in reviews and forums are really just people who had a flakey machine or werent smart enough to set it up right. :p:D (total speculation- I have no data to back that up)

check presonus and see if you qualify for a copy of Studio One Artist...awesome DAW, upgrade to the Pro version....full 64bit, VST3 support..that would swing it for me :)

http://www.presonus.com/technical-support/downloads/drivers-software/ If you check out the drivers here for the Firebox, it has both Xp 32/64 and Vista 32/64 compatibility. This would be his best choice.

I think that all Presonus Interfaces will provide the rebate for the Studio One Artist at the moment. I think it is until Dec 31st of this year. Not quite sure. http://www.guitarcenter.com/PreSonu...reWire-Recording-System-103023966-i1125347.gc it is offered in the description though.

I'm sure it comes with some kind of Pitch correcting plug in.

I think I am gonna get the Firebox by Presonus. I will have to get an express card for my laptop. Has anyone ever heard of any issues that may occur with an express card?
