Wow, I don't think it could get any better, Geck. You use such imagination in how you put your songs together. I love...LOVE....the guitar solo near the end. The way it dramatically changes key, but then brings everything back to the original key in the chorus.

I also enjoyed the slide...how it threaded its way in and out of the song.

By the second verse, I was singing along, because I had picked up on the structure and meter of your song. That doesn't mean it was predictable, it means it was memorable.

It's on my iPod now. Well done.

Jesus H Christ, Geck... if your not going to be "the star", shouldn't you at least be the producer of a rising star?

surely some producer somewhere at least wants to BUY the song ideas, like this one? (and anklepants too, eh?) and have their precios pop star have some original material?

you really seem to have nailed the whole "bittersweet" thing on this one. Its pretty and sad all at the same time.

your "folk" thing comes thru (to me anyways...) sounding a little "country flavored", likely thats the guitar, it has a country western sound to it.

the piano is very nice and tasteful, particularly where the song "peels back" to just the soft piano lines.

the lyrics and the slight country-western guitar sound make me think of "cat stevens"... and the piano and the whole thing together also reminds me somehow of Jeff Lynne/ELO.

Jeff Lynne would do one song kinda heavy metal-ish... then the next song on an ELO album would be soft pop... then just WHAM! he would do a country western sounding song (like "down home town")

1 part cat stevens, 1 part jeff lynne/ELO, 1 part "geck"

I cant find any faults. I swear you should be shopping these ideas around if not to perform the songs yourself, then to sell the song itself to producers to let their favorite pop act perform them... a "pop/country" act would prolly eat this one up, it has that "sound" to it...

...and there is a song I found by accident on Usenet called "Twarted by Pussy" by the Backwards Giraffes. (It's about a man who loses his mischievious kitty. Get your minds out of the gutter. Heh).

I agree with Mike's comments. Great work, as usual, Gecko! This one has a nice 70s feel to it, with good variability throughout.

Nice key change toward the end. I can easily imagine this song as a top 40radio hit back in the 70s.

i really enjoyed that gecko, you are extradinarily talented. i hope someday i could even come close to that
 
Nice tune, really smooth in the recording cause am at work listening on rather useless pc speakers and it still sounds smooth. Well arranged tune, you see the spaces my friend, well hear them :D

I am not a little envious of your tracking and mixing and decent levels without any clipping whatsoever.
 
As I said earlier, this song is wonderful, and I think it's the best of the bunch in the entries for the Oct/Nov challenge. Great lyrics and melody. Parts of the arrangement remind me of an Alan Parsons Project type of sound. Your harmonies are tasteful and not overpowering, the piano is very full-sounding, and the slide adds interest to the arrangement. Then there's your voice - it completely fits the song.

Very nice job with both lyrics and arrangement. Simple instrumentation, yet full at the same time with space for each. I liked the harmonies, thought it added a lot. Nice instrumental and key change, and like everyone else agrees, great job. Enjoyed the listen.

The vocal reminds me of Mick from weddings parties anything.
An excellent story and arrangement.
the opening vocal phrase comes across a little stilted to my ears - it makes sense when I progressed into the song but the phrasing is so naked in the arrangement at the beginning that it struck me as a little stilted.
The slide works a treat.
On a mix level I'd lave preferred the vocal a little less up front - but that's a matter of taste.
I missed the object of the task - I've had the semester from hell at work so haven't kept up with anything on HR - but I'm certain you've achieved the required specs.
Def. a keeper.
