She sent me a couple tracks to play with. A previously submitted tune.

My vote for the most quickly improved recordist, singer and piano player!!!

A gold-star pupil of the forum. Fast learnier!

You remember the original a few months ago?

Meanwhile....how's the EQ?? n' stuff. I'm hearing upright every six beats on the one. Maybe a string quartet intro and outtro?

I missed the original... :(

Nice vocal arrangement. Very turn of the century Presbyterian-meets- gospel. Suggestions to add to the accompaniment might be an old style pedal organ. Part of me wants to say it's a little dry, but if it's all "produced" it won't be as authentic. Might could stand some gentle compression/limiting to level it out a little without having to moisten it. Nice clean acquisition, for sure....

I believe I remember the old mix and from what I remember this sounds very good.

She's a good one indeed - that is LL & the song too.
AS to the stuff:
EQ = nice
Mix + nice
It does sound like it was created with a simple pedal organ in mind but the piano serves well enough.
The harmonies are really nice too.
To think that this lass sang only as a means of archiving her songs!
NOW she expresses her songs.

It's been a while

Well, it's been a long while since I've been over here. I really hope to listen to more of everyone's stuff soon, but this school year has been a bit overwhelming for me.
Thanks so much, Jeff, for your encouragement, collaboration, and posting the song to get some feedback!
Thanks, to each for your comments. This forum has been my tutor, and I hope to continue to learn from all of you.:D

final master [mine]

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=825703&songID=8335940

withdrew some of the essing....added upright...killed vox on outtro. A little less mash to allow space for the cresendo and more dynamics.

LifeLyrics...sending the bass and backvox tracks to you. And this master, if you want it. Thanks for the opportunity to contribute! And God bless you and your music!

BTW..I didn't want to add more...including the previous buildup: this version is as near perfect as I can imagine. More would be less, I think.

Thank you so very much, Jeff. I just finished listening to it, and am inclined to agree with you. I thought I wouldn't like such a long piano outro, but I think it works for the song. It sort of adds a pensive moment at the end to soak in the message of the song.

I am so looking forward to receiving an the tracks or an mp3 of this song, so I can post it on my soundclick page, and put it on my iPod!!

I'm eternally grateful to you for your tips and advice here on the forum, and your beautiful work on this song!

The piano sounds great! I really like the all the vocals as well.

I keep hearing a faint high pitched hum during the quite passages. The gate cuts it off, but it's audible. Can't be helped I guess.

On a purely technical stance, it's a fine sounding recording. From a personal perspective, it reminds me of many a wake I've been to. So I can't say it's a very "fun" listen.

Wow, you got great ears, K!! I was just telling LL about the 'gate' I put on the piano to kill the stack hum, or whatever it is. I could only hear it with the track soloed. Y' got them bat-ears. Scarey.

Personally, as one who had the best of life, and let it slip through his hands so as to placate his selfish, worldly desires...following his own heart....and to have been heading to a death of hope.... the tune and it's message are a joy to hear and ruminate upon, for me.

Some people figure it out young. I'm a harder student. Or , at least, formerly too damn proud to realize my stupidity.

When I sang "All of my heart, soul, mind and strength..." I meant it!

And that's the most important thing too. At it's best, music is sincere, and this sounds very heart felt and real. Nice job.

Nice wrap up!
Some parts of it - in terms of harmony - reminded me of moments on Ry Cooder's Chicken Skin Music.

Wow, those harmonies and the main vox sound wonderful!
Great piano sound. Church on Sunday morning feel to the whole thing.
Very, very nice indeed, well done to both of you!

Joey :):):):)

??? Anyone care to pitch in with ideas ???

Thanks for your comments, Joey.

Hey all, I got a comment on my soundclick page about this song, and I was hoping someone may have an idea of what might be missing. I just listened to a podcast, yesterday, from Inside Home Recording, and they did a segment on adding midi strings, with different techniques, and I wondered if maybe that was the answer. Still not sure. Please take a few minutes to listen to the song, with this comment in mind:

"Every time I listen to 'All of my Heart' it gets better and better! I love the mixes with the harmony and added instruments. It's just me, but I think it could still be a better song than you ever thought it could be! I can't pinpoint exactly what it is, I just feel like there is something missing and when you figure out what that is, it will be what takes it over the top. I know you will be lead to what ever it is."

Thanks a bunch for your time, and expertise. I really appreciate it.
