I saw where Taylor guitars is now making/selling a Taylor Swift signature model.... Whatever happened to the days when signature model guitars were designed/named for players who had paid their dues and contributed significantly to music through their playing--not some snot-nosed crybaby who who has only released two CDs--and those were three years apart and are basically teen-angst ridden drivel.
It took Kris Kristofferson 40 years to rate a signature model guitar.

All the more reason not to buy/play a Taylor--I'm surprised they didn't put out the Hannah Montana guitars instead of Washburn....

And that is a joke too, unless of course you like super cheesey dentist office adult pop from the 70's.

But yes, I totally agree with your point. Avril Lavigne has a sig Tele. She doesn't even play. Billy Joe Armstrong has a sig LP Jr? Seriously? I'd never buy any of that shit.

I'd buy a Lemmy model Rick though. :D

are there teardrops on the guitar?

The pic shows some kind of soundhole design--not sure what it's supposed to be.... Must be targeting pre-adolescents hoping to grow in to teen-angst ridden crybabies.

And yes, I find a Kris Kristofferson signature model to be a joke too since he has never been really that noteworthy as a guitarist.... At $3k+ street price--it's not a very funny joke either.

Although he does have a few artist endorsement deals, at least Phil Keaggy has never shilled his name out for a signature model guitar. (Probably because he uses so many different makes/models in the course of a single concert--last time I saw him he had 10 different guitars onstage with him--and he used every one of them in the course of the three hour concert.)

I think taylor swift is very talented. I'm not crazy about her live singing (pitchy) but she is an incredible songwriter and has one of the best senses of melody of anyone in the business. She can put all the anst, love, irony, and optimism of every teenage girl in america in a 2 minute country pop song that sells like hotcakes. That is a God given gift. I think many are jealous of her.

Have any of you guys sold several million records and been the voice of your generation?
If so I'm sure you could get a sigature guitar too.

I don't think she rates a sig guitar (she's not really a player)...but why is she a "snot nosed crybaby"...????
Why so much anger?

She's actually NOT snooty...nor a crybaby.

And you know...she's a young girl writting/singing to a young audience...so her current songwriting reflects that...but the girl has serious talent.
(I'm not crazy about her vocal tone...but she CAN sing.)

"Incredible" songwriter--by what standard? Output? The girl has two CD releases to her name in three years time. The Beatles put out five times that in their first three years. By subject matter? Again, most songwriters show some maturity and growth in subject matter. Her subject matter plays on one note: an insecure narcissistic adolescent female pity party.
Her music sells like hotcakes? That's not talent, it's marketing.
By your standard--Britney Spears is talented....

Win. Anyone that believes that Taylor Swift is anything but a product of slick marketing is a fool. Just because 12 year old girls like your "music" doesn't mean that you're a musical genius. I had no idea who she was until Kanye West jumped up on her stage, but now that I know, I have to say that he was probably right.

Serious talent? For what? Her songwriting is puerile and narcissistic and shows no emotional or intellectual growth in three years time.

Her singing is a nasal monotone. Her guitar is basically a stage prop from the Madonna school of guitar playing.

Your protests miss the point that I think other people have gotten--a signature guitar should represent an acknowledgment that someone has contributed significantly to the development and art of playing guitar--someone with a career consisting of two CDs in three years' time cannot honestly lay claim to have done.
Will she accomplish anything in the future? Possibly.... Will she show real intellectual and emotional growth as an artist, I hope so....
But this is like giving a Nobel Peace Prize to the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in DC based on 12 days of occupancy because he has a "hope" the world can be more peaceful."

1.) I said I didn't think she deserved a sig guitar.

2.) I said I wasn't crazy about her vocal tone.

3.) I said she is a young kid singing and writing for young kids...and 2 back-to-back top-of-the-charts CDs are nothing to smirk at, plus, she has pop-sensibility and writes songs that hit the mark for her target audience. I bet if she wrote very adult-focused songs…people would say she was a fake, writing and singing about that stuff at such a young age.

When she gets to be around 25 or so...if she is STILL singing/writing the same shit....then you will have a point, but right now, sounds more like basic jealously to me. ;)

PS
I always loved the Beatles, but remember that the Beatles had 4 guys involved in writing/contributing...AND...if you listen to the Beatles first couple of albums...it was also just a lot of narcissistic, teen-focused pop. ”Please Please Me”, “Love Me Do”, “I Saw Her Standing There” “She Loves You” “Thank You Girl” etc…etc…. :)

To all the haters on Taylor Swift. Just don't listen to her music and stop yall crying. Its as easy as that. I guess yall must be the ones with teardrops on your guitar cause you ain't making millions like her. I'm 30 and I listen to her music, and her music rocks. They are simple and catchy. People cry that her music is cheasy and simple and plan...danm, if it so plan...lets see you do it then.

marketing

TAYLOR guitars , TAYLOR Swift, the marketing ploy is obvious. If they wanna pander to that demographic with a signature guitar, who cares? All it proves is that Taylor's signature series guitars really aren't a tribute to the performer as much as they are slick marketing tool. Taylor Swift has probably inspired a lot of teenage girls to take up the guitar and try to write songs. Taylor guitars is cashing in on her success. Good luck to both of them.

Look. Swift is a white-hot talent right now, her record sales are through the roof, she has an enormous tween fan base that cuts right across the country / pop divide, she's attractive and has stage presence, her singing and songwriting are pretty good, but most importantly for Taylor the guitar manufacturer, she actually plays guitar on stage and it is up in the mix.

Nothin' but win for both Taylors.
