Do it right or dont do it
Hey there, here's a humble attemp to record this wonderful song. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance:

Autumn Leaves
[.mp3]

[.zip] http://www.killthepixelnow.com/solo_project/autumn_leaves002.zip

PS: When I bounce down [.mp3] files from Pro Tools I experience some issues when playing the tunes on Internet so I recommend to download the [.zip].

I suggest:
Less ambience on drums
Less reverb on piano (cannot feel the attack)
(basically a better balance on both (room) with ac bass.

Solo instrument is an (eletric) bass guitar? Lacks definition in the mids and punch (attack)

*just curious , what is midi and what is "real" ?

Thanks for the advices, I'll do some changes based on your recommendations and will replace the original file. Muito obrigado.

cant get it to play??
I get about three notes :(

Plz, download the [.zip] file, I don't know what's the problem with the bounced Pro Tools [.mp3] file.

I'm listening on headphones sorry and I have not got a clue about this genre..I think that's the longest I've ever listened to it :)

some of the piano seemed a little out of sync around the 1 minute mark..and/or out of harmony..in fact isn't that the way its meant to be  see lol

drum solo could've been louder..or maybe a little wilder..

I give up haha...levels seemed right apart from that, loved the double bass and guitar...were some of these midi or all real instruments?

good job anyway...no more jazz for me ;)

Bass seems to have a lot of low end to me. And the drums sound kind of a bit far away while the other instruments are pretty much in your face. Otherwise I find the recording and performance pretty good.

Joey :):):):)

WAY too much bottom end ...... just sounds bassy as hell except for the snare and cymbal crashes and, because of that, it's really muddy.

I kind of like the ballsy bass sound but it's overpowering in this mix. The drums sound like they were recorded two rooms away from everything else. But admittedly I'm more used to typical rock n' roll recordings so maybe that explains why it sounds weird to my ears.

Hey Pixel!

I don't have the mp3 encoder for ProTools but maybe you can try what I do...

I bounce to WAV or AIFF or whatever and then open it up in Reaper. Then use the lame enc mp3 encoder. I'm sure you can do this with Audacity and a few others as well. Maybe this is something that could work for you.

Sorry pro tools mp3 encoder isn't working right. (waves finger at pro tools)

Bass is strong! I like it all together. I love bass, but I'd back off it just a tad.

I'm not reading any other comments before posting this.

I love the guitar tone.

I love the roomy sound of the drums...I know it's jazz, but they could be just a HAIR louder...not a ton...a hair.

The bass is just too loud and electric sounding for the tune, in my humble opinion. I don't mind using compression on it, but it should have like huge transients and less sustain. Like a long attack and a fast release. It should thump with the song, not be a constant wall of bass. This isn't 3 Doors Down, lol.

Nice recording overall. Could probably be improved heaps just by turning the bass down a bit.

Now I'll read and see how wrong I am, lol.

well now, see...that's why the clinic is good. You can notice trends in comments and fix stuff.

I just saw that there was another mix, so I listened. Turn the bass down.

I hear the fret buzz on the bass, so I guess it's an upright bass? It really doesn't sound like one for some reason.

Thank you all, I´m gonna throw down the upright bass fader a bit to avoid mudding the mix. I'll try to dry the drum tracks, I agree that the kit sound far away from the other instruments.

I will repost when all is done. I really appreciate your comments.
