Hello!!
Through help from this forum, I have acquired a setup as follows:

Audiophile 2496 sound card
M-Audio DMP3 pre-amp
Shure SM57 mic
Heil PR-40 mic

I get a good sound, just want to record more.
Should I hit up a mixer or... any suggestions or direction would be appreciated.

***EDIT*** (From post #10)

Right now I'm using Reaper. I really like the program.

I'm not sure what I want to record, but I do want options open.
I am intested in recording many tracks at once, and read about some firepod.

What are so good about monitors? Right now I have some decent speakers (not the greatest) and some nice headphones (Beats by Dr. Dre).
I am intested to know more about monitors though.

Acoustic treatment? As for the room?

Thanks for the replies so far!

Ya! depending on your budget. Small budget - I would get a little 4 channel beheringer mixer

Larger budget - I might go mixerless and get a firewire capable interface, like a firestudio, just my personal preference.

Also, some software can really pique your interest and get you motivated.

OK i give

What are you recording

VOX, Guitar, nature sounds.

mixers are for recording multiple inputs at once. keep in mind that they "mix" all your input signals down to two left and right signals and once this is done it cant be un-done.

if your not recording a bunch of sources using a bunch of microphones dont worry about it. and if you are, dont waste your money on a mixer just spend it on an interface with multiple inputs.

mixers are pretty much outdated

What software are you using? What "more" are you looking for? (plus all the other questions already asked)

how about some good studio monitors and acoustic treatment

I use a mixer because I only have one input on my toneport which I use as an audio interface...just saves plugging and unplugging instruments..nothing else..monitors are the one thing I wished Id spent more money on..

Well! I'll add this to my first post as well.
