Rap, Rhyming Need Suggestions

Hi everyone,

I really want to learn how to write rap lyrics rhyming scheme to use. How to have good flow while rapping.

Below are sample of my lyrics that i wrote. All suggestions are welcome, this lyrics is not here to offend anybody so please don;t get upset or get mad at me.

I am solider,` i fight not complain
fuck bitches like u, who call themselves insane.
Motherfucka i make it rain, make your mom scream in pain
she is soo addicted to my dick, like it is cocaine.
she lick it like it is sugar cane, while i drink champagne
Call me t-pain, Call me lil wayne,
bitch, I got venom running in every vein.
So don't fuck with me, I am not free,
I am motherfucker G, murdered you with a click.
Do you still think my flow is not sick ?
then, you can lick my dogs dick
While i fuck your chick with my magic stick.

I am new to the rap game
nobody even know my name.
yet I am trying to be hardcore but my lyrics are lame
So i gotta work on my flow as i go.
yesterday my car broken down and i had tow.
Tow truck guy said 500 dollar please, i was like Oh No
that too expensive i cannot afford.
Instead of money i can give you my snow board.
so that you can go snow boarding in the winter
If that not enough i can aslo give you my laser printer.
It spits paper like eminem spits rhymes.
When i rap on stage people throw dimes.
So for now i am gonna work on my lyrics and flow
it midnight here, so i gotta go..

The rhyming you've got seems to work okay already, and the whole thing sits together pretty well. Keep on doing what you're doing.
 
Your best bet is to freestyle to gain flow and melody changes. Read a rhyming dictionary. And write all day everyday. I know people tell you these things and it doesn't seem like it's what you want to hear... but the sooner you follow that advice the sooner you will get better. There are 7 Things that make a professional rap artist

1) Flow
2) Melody Change/ Drops(every 4 or 8 Bars / TI ALWAYS does drops then goes back to his original flow.. EXAMPLE What you know about that)
3) The Voice (Which you CAN change with certain techniques)
4) Word Play (double rhyming etc.)
5) Mean What You Say (Or noone will believe you)
6) Jump Ins (When you come on the track)
7) Swagger (Everyones is different. Dont sound like another artist or you wont make it... aside from drake who can only do that because he signed with wayne who he sounds identical too. Fucking canadians.)

And yes some of these are the same but at the same time they are also seperate

I don't know much to add other than if your are trying to shock then you are going to have to do much better than what you have.
There is no way to judge flow from lyrics.
As another poster said, sing what you know. Sing what you believe.
If you are just trying to fit the mold then it won't work.

By flow do you mean way of rap, how to keep rhythm, go along with the beat ?

What is Melody Change ? and What are drops can you explain this point more ?

Low shows emotions in the voice like lil wayne does ?

double rhyming you mean mutli syllabus like
cornbread, born dead ?

5) Mean What You Say (Or noone will believe you)

What exactly is jump ins ?

7) Swagger (Everyones is different. Dont sound like another artist or you wont make it... aside from drake who can only do that because he signed with wayne who he sounds identical too. Fucking canadians.)

I don't feel like the lyrcis come from your heart.. it's just like you're trying to be a gangster... but yeah don't gangster have feelings? so.. be yourself and work on those lines.. don't be scared to show who you really are.
 
as a hip hop/rap artist...

if this is your first try at writing rap then i will not judge this as anything period. you do have a long way to go so ima just help you in your journey as i was helped.

1. define who you are as an artist- meaning yes your gonna sound like whoever your favorite artist is but after that find out for yourself why there your favorite artist. what do you like about them that draws you 2 them. there words there style there mannerisms all make up who they are.

2. listen to rappers who are succesful- no matter what anybody says any rapper who has been around for longer than 5 years is a successful artist in this industry period. these artist have the book on success and are openly letting you and i in on it but you have to look deeper and listen when they talk about it.

3. real rap from the heart is felt not made- wen you rap or sing about something you can draw direct emotion connections from you do it better than if you dont know what your talking about. mean what you say and stand behind it caus wen u get called out for it (and all artist do whether violently or in debate/discussion) you need to be confident and have the know how of handling yourself and your beliefs in the appropriate manner.

4. wen your done- mayb in a year or so from now you will come back here and read this (what you wrote) and you will laugh. your lyrics will show growth in your heart mind and soul that wasnt previously there. you will see this moment as a stepping stone on your path to not just being a rapper but being a comprehensive writer for yourself and the happenings around you.

This will probably sound harsh but they are what I call swagger type lyrics. So if you're swagger isn't up to par and the beat isn't super hot then those lyrics really aren't going to cut it I'm afraid. You could prove me wrong but I've got enough rap records at mine and my parents house to recognise classic verses and flavour of the month verses.

There are alot of rappers who are no where near your Rakim's and KRS One's but they have the swagger to back them up. By Swagger I mean energy, delivery, tone, diction, good stage shows, presence etc.

Rap is about lots of things but to me mainly Ice Cube summed it up in a soundbite once and I'm going to paraphrase here but you'll get the idea.

''It's about having that lyric that makes you think... Damn why didn't I think of that''

I've seen similar things said by producers in rap and I think it is in essence what hip hop is. With that in mind look back at your lyrics and think if you have captured the essence of that quote.

Now if you think you have the next step is to add some depth to your lyrics. As much as music is ''hook'' driven and people have to hook/latch onto your music in order for you to be commercilally successful. Your lyrics really shouldn't be so predictable. Eg.

If I was listening to this for the first time I'd be able to predict your rhyming word just from your line structures. You use the sound of ''ain'' and then talk about addiction. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess that you've painted yourself into a corner and your only way out is to use the word cocaine. if you wanted to use the addicted metaphor there are tonnes of other addictive substances out there that you can use. A different choice of word would take your rhymes in a whole other direction ultimately making your raps stand out. Eg.

Motherfucka i make it rain, make your mom scream in pain
she is soo addicted to my dick, like white or brown
this is gaurav and I'm in your town.

Corny I know but you see how taking what you have which is a raw skeleton and changing a few words here and there can take your raps in a new direction.
 
You've got ALOT of good responses on this. You need to absorb it and practice. Theres no way possible that you will get good instantly.... I started at 15 as a battle rapper at the lunch table.... Won dozens of Trophies In Chicago battles and im still 54-0 Even Got offered a Smack DVD spot..... But now that im 23.... The battling is all behind me and now I make real music. But it took me 8 Years to get the level im at now. And last year I wasn't nearly as good as I am now... and I was 7 Years in then. I look at last years Choruses and I laugh like Illsoul told you that you would a year from now looking back.

When I Get off house arrest watch me.....

And when I said "Fucking canadians" It was pertaining to Drake... Because he's from Canada. Incase you didn't know that Kcearl.

just stay at it...then in a few years you will know why what you wrote was garbage, theres too much to explain.

all i will say is 2 years ago i wrote similar crap...now i laugh/cringe at my old work
