I just finished this tune, But I'm having trouble "hearing" it properly. One listen, I find the vocals way too loud...Next listen, they're too low. Same with the drums.

Let me know if it's as out of whack as I think it might be, or if the levels aren't as bad as I'm imagining.

Thanx!

OUT OF THIS WORLD

I'm listening to it the only way I can at the moment (since I'm at work, and it's the last day of the quarter, so I'm waiting for accounting close, and I don't have headphones) -- real quiet on laptop speakers.

Not the best way to listen, but actually a good way to listen in order to answer your question. I can hear the vocals fine, and they don't seem too loud. The drums are maybe a little low, or, more specifically, the snare gets buried sometimes. I can barely hear the cymbals.

I can't comment on the low frequency stuff :)

Well done, and cool song!

Listening now... phasey guitar and shakers are too "close" in the field. I'd pull the lead vox UP in this mix a tad. This is a drier sound, I think, than you generally go for in spots, but it changes a lot in spots. (I'd mix your drums wetter in the snare than you do, but that's just a choice.

Yeah, mostly I'd pull the lead vox up a tad and add a SMIDGEN of edge to it (6.3KHz), back that shaker off by half, and/or moisten it... Pretty on otherwise...

Thanx a lot Chef. I did keep turning down the snare, always thinking it was too loud. I can easily bring it back up if need be. I have a cold for the first time in years, so that's not helping my hearing right now either.

Thanx man.

Awesome man. Your last two songs have kicked ass. Love the intro! :)

Drums can be a little louder overall. Kick especially. Check the setup/phase on your OH's. Seems like the snare is leaning left. I don't usually hear that in your stuff.

Vocal level seems good to me. I can make out all the lyrics no problem. If you bring the drums up, bring more bass in too. Guitars sound awesome. Another kick ass tune man. good job.

Thanx Phil. I'll turn down the shaker a bit. But I don't want to wet it. That part has enough reverbed and phase-y stuff happening. I wanted the cabasa to sound like a rattlesnake sitting right on someone's speakers, so I chose to go dry. I'll wet the drums a little more, too.

Cool. That's a relief. Not as bas as I thought. I really thought there was a possibility that the mix was really all over the place.

I got no problem bringing up the drums. :D

I thought I noticed the snare a little left, too. But I don't even know how that would have happened. I just went back and measured my overhead/snare distances, and everything's perfect. Weird. I'll look into that.
Thanx for the help, guys.

Hey RAMI...well, the performance is tight as hell that's for sure...guess that isn't news to anyone at this point though.

The kind of potential level issues you're concerned with are so slight compared to what one would normally be dealing with, but yes, I did in fact feel that the vocals were a bit too loud and the drums could come up a bit.

I am listening on windows media player on a laptop though, so not the best reference by far.

I then read the prior comments and others seem in agreement that vox levels are fine, so uh, I guess, uh...nevermind :o:).

Exellent work thus far...any further refinements would be welcome, but this sounds more or less complete as is...very well done.

As near to perfect as I've heard...except that the guitars don't have tooth and bite. Kinda mid/muddy. Specifically, the rhythms they play don't sound their transients to compliment the drum/bass figures. Not a real awful thing, but that third element would add a lot of oomph. Over the top.
Love your time and accuracy.

Hey Heat!

Thanx man. I just put up a new mix with the drums and bass up a bit, based on your and a few other people's input, which I really appreciate. Thanx for the listen and the help, man.

Really? I'm truly surprised. I didn't know what to expect from this tune. Thanx!

Thanx Jeff. Still working on getting the right guitar sound for the right song. It's my weakest area right now, I think.

Thanx a lot for taking the time to listen and comment.

Amazing new tune:cool:

Vox level is good to me, just take a look , snare (or OH?)is more to the left channel.
Excellent arrangement, guitars tone ...you know.
Bass guitar and even BD could up a bit with no problem - altough sounds ok this way too.

Listening again, I think I smashed it too much. I have it at the same level as my other tunes, but I hear the snare being a little bit compressed. I'm going to re-massacre...I mean, re-"master" this

Everything is as tight a can be-great stuff. Something slightly odd in the intro-it all syncs together though-I can't quite put my finger on it.

There is a very 'Alice Cooper band' similarity in it to me-maybe if that band had survived into the new millenium-anyway, you have another winner here!:)

You shouldn't work on this while your senses are compromised by illness.

Then I'd never get anything done. :D

But seriously....You're right. That's probably why I'm having trouble hearing anything properly. I can't taste or smell anything either.

Hey, I'll take an Alice Cooper reference any time.

Love it. I like the vox where they sit. Lyrics are great too. Sounds like you spent some time on them.

I know I should never tell you how to mix drums.... but I'm not crazy about the toms in the wet parts; 3:00 and 4:00. Is there a flanger on them?? I think whatever you're doing makes them sound a little thin. Not getting a nice full tone... I don't know what I'm talking about, so take it with a grain of salt.

Anyways, great tune. Once again proving you're more professional than anything on the radio. :)

Thanx a lot CIRO. I just did another mix with a few changes. One of them was bringing the bass and kik up.

Thanx a lot Chili. I don't have anything on the toms but lots of reverb and compression. But maybe too much compression. I'll check it out. Thanx a lot man.

This is my favorite song of yours. Love the vocals at 3:46. Nice complexity.

Thursday arvo - just home from work & found a RAMI tune to play...
A real TOOL intro - & then Wham RAMI funk'n'rock!
The melody for "To wash away the bitter (?)..." is pure Beatle.
The slightly exotic solo section is cool.
Harmonies are rich & interesting.
The slower parts really suck me in waiting for the next change.
Well done on so many levels mate.

Love the groove of this one, Rami!
Great singing and and harmonies, wonderful performance. The guitars have a beautiful tone, but I find they could be a little angrier and grittier. But it's still great as it is. No need to comment on the drums, we all know what you're capable of. Totally kick-ass tune and another Rami classic!

Joey :):):):)
