Hello all

I have a couple problems, but they are probably something i didnt hook up right or configure properly. please help.

1.) I'm not sure if its possible with the Behringer 1204, but how would i use this board to multitrack record? When i send more than one channel to alt 3/4 bus, its all seen as one channel in the software program.

2.) I am trying to record something, so i send it to alt 3/4 bus on the board. In order to hear the metronome, i have to set the source on the board to MAIN MIX, because the sound in adobe audition is run through the main mix, but the sound from the instrument is going through the alt 3/4 bus. I set the bus as a source on the board as well, and now am stuck with 2 instrument sounds right after the other. I need to hear the metronome/other tracks on main mix, but need to hear the instrument on the alt 3/4. nothing i do will make it possible to have one instrument sound, while being able to record over a track, while being able to hear the track im playing over.

if you can assist me in getting to the bottom of these dang problems i will forever be in your debt. ive been trying to figure these things out since the day i bought this board =/

well the thing with your interface is it only has two inputs, and dont get me wrong it goes great with your mixer... but heres your problem: all the inputs on your mixer are getting "mixed" down to two channels (left and right) which are then being fed into your interface inputs which are (left and right).

no matter weather you use the main outs or alt 3-4 outputs of your mixer its still only going to be two channels cause your interface only has two inputs.

The problem is that when arming a track to record on the mixer (sending to alt 3/4 bus), i need to have the alt 3/4 source switch pressed down. In order to hear other tracks in adobe audition to play over, i need to have the main mix source switch pressed down. With this setup, plucking a string causes 2 sounds. one from the main mix source, one from the alt 3/4 bus source.

Im guessing this is just a setup thing. could i technically send channels to the interface with channel 7/8?

Your not gonna want to hear this

That UCA 200 that came with your behringer is...............well crap. I bought a Behringer 1832 fx mixer that came with a UCA 202 and its CRAP. Those behringers are VERY good for live setups so definetly keep it once your ready to throw it in the trash....lol. But for recording they are garbage, the mixer and the UCA. The preamps are very low quality, the built in effects are way less than stellar and your will lose quality in your recordings when you have to use the tape ins/ tape outs that connect to your UCA 200. I use a VERY VERY VERY cheap M-audio fast track......thats it not fast track pro/ultra/ultra 8r........just the plain ol fast track.........My sequencer is sonar 7xl. The Fast track ultra outperforms the behringer crap EVERY TIME. Just buy a nice mic........I use an SM57 for guitars, and am going to buy a SM58 for vocals very soon.

Also what turned everything around for me was when i learned to pan my guitar when recording. I set the sm57 around 8 inches from the center of my speaker cone.........made sure my levels were right then hit....RECORD. After the track was complete i panned it to the right. I THEN.......STEP BY STEP....re recorded the exact same thing on a different track...........then PANNED LEFT. the results.......were amazing.

The trick is getting your levels absoulutley PERFECT before you hit that record button. This eliminates.....HOURS of engineering........to include setting levels in the sequencer, having to add reverb, compression,equalizers....etc etc etc.

CHEERS!!!!!!!!

I've been saying the same thing about Beh gear for years. Sorry & good luck.:o

Which is all very well . . . but it doesn't answer the OP's question.

Unfortunately, I don't know enough about that interface or mixer to know how to configure it the best way for recording.

That is correct! I don't have much to offer but........

...................unfortunately and as prev'ly stated, the UCA200 is limited to only 2 signals at a time while the 1204's line inputs must be routed to alt bus 3&4.

The most you can do is to use Y-cables which can be used to record up to 4 signals at a time(2 line signals each to 3&4), but will still be transferred to your 'Dobe in 2-trk/stereo mode by the UCA.

As far as hearing 2 sources via the "Main Mix", try reconfiguring your signals by running it thru "Monitor" using AUX2 which is post fader though that point might be moot if you're using it for outboard efx.

Again, good luck!:o

I think you are absolutly right in both posts...if that interface works it is still an example of the kind of thing that a newb to this gets taken for...usually you get what you pay for and you are not really getting a good deal from Behringer just because you didnt spend much money...if it is malfuctioning you can take it back and try an inexpensive M-audio one that will be a little closer to your expectations.
