am turning to Mac equipment. I used to record pretty intensely, I have a decent sized rack of outboard equip from PC recording, but since I stopped recording years ago (probably 4-5) I have started to use a Mac and I want to convert. I have no problem dropping my Delta 1010, and I'm looking into the Presonus FP10 as a solid replacement, but will I be able to override the pre's on it?

Also, I have a Mackie 1202 vlz mixing board, not the greatest, but will it work with the Presonus without any issues (my worries being it may be old enough to be outdated and incompatible. In regards to that, how about other outboard effects (i.e. RNC units-- I've got two of them and I'd be heartbroken to give them up).

Also, the thought of running a studio on a laptop somewhat scares me. Is this truly feasible to do with a Macbook Pro?

I've got a few RNP's, and I haven't had an opportunity to A/B them to compare.

Well the fp10's pres are pretty decent, but I doubt would compare to the RNP's. Why go for a fp10 if you've got RNPs?

I only have 2, and they're fucking expensive... and I need an interface, because A) my delta 1010 is all kinds of fucked up and B)I don't think it would connect to a Mac anyway (it's got the soundcard attachment). Any better suggestions?

My plan would be optimally to bypass the first two channels with the RNP's and use them for guitars, vocals, bass, and overheads to get a crisp cymbal sound, and use the built-in pre's for the rest of the drum kit, essentially.

depends on the RAM on the comp. i have a macbook pro with 2.5 GHz Processor and 2 Gigs of RAM. i can work fine. if my track count gets high i might have to close some other large programs. but i can run Logic Studio GREAT on my macbook pro.

it jus becomes a problem if you have like logic pro, photoshop, youtube, and itunes on. something you would never do anyway.

The only thing is (like always) get an external HD

Cool; I'm looking at possibly getting the 4gig ram and using it specifically for school next year, recording, in photography stuff-- obviously not doing all of them at the same time, so I think I should be good!

The pres on the fp10 should be better than that of the mackie.
