Maybe it goes without saying and everyone noticed, but I figured someone would comment on the fact that the C-37 has no built-in meters. I guess they figured built-in meters were for wimps? Or would ruin the look? I recall Mitch mentioning that he had Fred Hill install VU meters on the J-37.

I have a ??, I looked at an online site which sells half inch reel tape and up to two inch and had a minor stroke as far as expense...whats an average price for new 2 inch tape?

Well, the first thing I'll take seriously is to get a multi-track machine. Actually, it's looking more and more likely that I will buy the Stephens machine. Some folks in Calgary have undertaken to start making the proprietary plugin opamp modules, so the electronics side is no longer so scary. The only issue is whether the transport keeps speed properly. If it doesn't, it's hard to fix.
The other stuff on my wishlist is relatively mundane, new gear:

I have never seen a Studer deck like that...thanks for the posting the pics, Daniel...that is really, really cool. Lookit the capstan motor on that thing! Its HUGE! I bet its fun to watch the tape go through all those rollers. Really a mechanical piece of art AFAIC.
I honestly don't drool anymore over tracking and mixing gear. I think I'm satisfied with what I have and its about time.
Mics are a different story though, Daniel...would love an AKG C414 or a set of three Sennheiser MD421's, though I'm loving a recently acquired Oktava MK-219, but you already know about that. And after tracking this eve I'm pretty excited about that Oktava...so...maybe its NOT such a different story.

I think it's fine being excited about gear but one has to exert some control over it, 'cause once it gets going, it's pretty hard to stop and that "excitement" can turn to something else entirely and can get problematic.
Yeah, I don't use condensers but that Oktava sounded better than any others in this category, kinda like a vintage character to it.

Clevo, did you work at a high tech firm? Funny, I could be mistaken but it looks like you made the same exact baffles as I made,
using the large styrofoam rectangular sheet with soft foam eggshell glued on top.

I'm very interested in the ATR-60 16 and MS-16 decks. I'm doing pretty well on my 8-track, so I'm not going to look into other decks until I've fully exhausted the possibilities of my 8-track.

Yeah, I reckon, though I tend to agree about being pretty happy with my gear. I do miss having an 8 track and may do something on that score. OTOH, it's even possible I will just track on the Teac for a while. Certainly, other than that, I'm in pretty good shape.
Theses days I do most of my actual recording with my Beyer M130 ribbon mikes. They are so good that I don't really need any other ribbon mikes and I have a few other useful mikes, too, like some good, true omni mikes.
As far as consoles go, I make do with my old compact Mackie. I would prefer to have a console with more versatile eq: in/out, HPF, and two tunable midrange bands plus low and high shelving would be nice. But the Mackie is super clean and accurate if you keep input and output levels down a bit.

I tried to repost some studio pics on the "studio build" site and the "manage attachments" kicks them back and says they "were already downloaded". Anyone know why that happens? ....also, the question about the baffles by the mirror are styrofoam (2" thick") covered in eggshell I scored up in Detroit.. I use them for many applications as they are so light... They slide right on the desk and with the overhang make a nifty vocal booth that works purdy cool..

Yup, I made those same ones. The 2" styrofoam with the silver plastic covering comes from shippers with mechanical assembly parts. I made about ten of those same moveable baffles from pieces I collected while working at a hi tech company.

The only thing I can think of is if you took new set of pictures, the camera numbers the pictures in the same order as an older collection (1,2,3 etc..) try renaming the picture and then uploading it.
