Well, I just downloaded THAT song. Cool man!! :D

I think the overall mix needs a good boost in the 4k - 8k range. Bring out the snap of the snare and cymbals.

You've got a very dynamic voice and I am curious if you could make the compressor attack setting faster. Don't know what setting it should be, but I think it should clamp down a little faster on the louder parts. Every so often, the vox seems to jump out and does not maintain the same consistency throughout the song. JMHO. I can tell you put a lot of emotion in your singing. Love it!!!

I love your between phrase licks.
What is the equip difference?
Have you been to your BBQ & did you ask Mike to do a bass track (you should have a portable set up/laptop to press gang him with)?
Excellent song - a little more snare snap would be nice.
Very cool song!

Seems to me to lack low end, everything sounds really thin and tinny and ... oh, wait, it must be that I'm listening on a laptop.

I have GOT to remember to at least bring my studio phones w/ me when I vacation! :D

I thought the song was cool. I'll give another listen when I'm back at my rig tomorrow.

Best,

Kev-

Thanks Chili, Ray and Kev...
Work has kept me away from writing/recording/mixing so I took advantage of Mike having Sonar too and bundled a file and brought it to the Bar-B-Que at his place. We did a few tweaks and Mike showed me a new Sonitus Custom eq setting for the bass which I really liked.

The new equipment is Mike's Ampeg head and bottom. He recorded a bunch of bass tracks with different settings and we picked our fav.

It was a pretty quick mix. There's some things I've already decided to change... I appreciate your listening and giving me more suggestions, all of which I'll look at incorporating.

I'm off to Minneapolis this week, so may not get a revised mix up before I go....

Thanks Again!

Such a great song, Gerry!
Voice seems to sit very much on top of everything else. A bit of room verb would do it good. I like the sound of your drums, although they could be a little louder. Bass and Guitar sound excellent and your voice is tops!;)

Joey :):):):)

Mix is nice. The song is really good. I really like it. Good job man!

I'm listening to the newer mix:

Is there a bass in this mix? I'm not really hearing it. It's either too low in the mix, lacks definition, or it's following the guitars very closely. I'm detecting a little bit of bottom end, so I assume it's in there, but I'd like it to stand out a little more. Guitars sound nice. The vocals sound good, but could maybe use some compression. The kind of jump in and out. Cool song though. I like your more rockin stuff. :)

Hi, Gerry!

Except for the bass guitar (low in the mix -I´ll agree with Greg) mix is pretty good - drums very good tone, vocal (great, and I think dinamics are OK) and guitars

Ciro

Listening to the remix....dig that creamy neck pick up guitar solo tone...sounds kinda like The Guess Who or Matthew Sweet....not getting much bass guitar , think a real groovin' movin' bass line would add a lot to this...Very cool rocking jam..... I like!

Thanks Queepy, Greg and Ciro... hmmm... needs more bass guitar..?

Maybe a little. At least more bass definition. Some meandering walks would be a nice touch too. This song has room for some bass wankery. :)

Voice is nicely embedded now, Gerry.
Yeah, make that bass purrrr, that's what an Ampeg does best! :)

What Greg said ... but I'll offer that its the gits masking the low end ... they've got a lot of fizzy to them, and that'll make it hard for the bass to poke through clear.

Hi I agree with Joey M, really nice song but the vocals just don't sit right at all for me. You have passion and power in your voice that is limited by the mix. Fresh compression and some reverb tweaks might make it sit better. My speakers are rather bassy but the music sits nicely together and the vocals seem seperate.

Nice blues though :)

Not to argue with the last post, but I think it sits very nicely together. I could picture the song being performed, and the singer and musicians rockin' for a crowd.
