This is affordable...and pretty...who here is using it and do you like it?

I got one of those Red bayonet mics a while back, with the custom capsule that was supposed to be the most versatile capsule and work well on about anything. I found it usable on anything but most vocals. I look at the specs and see that it's the same as the Bluebird without the bayonet option! The B8 capsule is permanent and the mic is $400 cheaper than the Red mic with the capsule options. Of course I really should audition more capsules than I have (2) before I tell you the circuitry of this mic produces a range of sounds that doesn't seem "expected" to me, but then my ears are probably off considering some of the mixes I've done. The Red B-1 got a good review, so who am I to argue, especially since I didn't like the way it sounded. Maybe when I figure out how to record the right way it will sound awesome? I can't figure out why my other mics produce such great sounds when I don't know what I'm doing while that one sounds wrong.

I know its just me.

Well, I am a Blue Dealer, so I just wanted to be up front about that. As for the Bluebirds themselves.... I just bought some bluebirds to try out in the studio. So far, I was actually kind of surprised for such an inexpensive mic. So far I have tried it on vocals, overheads, percussion and acoustic guitars, and it has performed alright. In the end, I decided to keep a pair for overheads and as options and auxilliary mics. It had a nice open sound without that typical fizzy overhyped top end that is so characteristic of many of the current cheaper condensors. In the end, the Bluebird may not end up as my "go to" mic thanks to other mics I already have, but it was also a nice addition to the mic locker too for a surprisingly low price. If you are interested in a Bluebird, feel free to shoot me a PM.

I did hold one yesterday and the construction was very solid...I was thinking of how this and the Studio Projects CS1 and CS5 isnt used here...but you would think these would be popular with the price point its at.

I picked one up at a pawn shop in Florida recently. I've only had a limited opportunity to audition it, but I think calling it transparent is a good call. It reminds me quite a bit of the C414B-ULS. What that means to me is that it is a good versatile instrument mic that will work on a handful of vocalists, especially women who are really good. It has already proven itself to be a good acoustic guitar mic, without the flattering color of the Baby Bottle, Oktava MC012, or C2000B. And as Xstatic stated, I'm not hearing that high end hype/sizzle so characteristic of a lot of cheap condensers. I think it is more of a "just the facts, Ma'am" sort of mic, and at the price point, a very good one.-Richie
