So my guitarist leaves his amp at my place, and he said that its okay I can use it. However he takes all his gear with him, so all I have is the head and the cab. Its a 16 ohm input into the speaker. Do I need a 16 ohm cable for this, or can I just use a regular speaker cable (which I have)? I know its probably a really dumb question and I could just try it myself very easily, I don't want to damage anything accidentally.

You can use your regular speaker cable. There's no difference in cable for differing impedances.

If he is taking the speaker cable with him then he might not truly want you to use his amp?

BTW you were talking about putting a speaker cable between the head and the cab and not using it for the guitar to the amp right? If used between the head and cab then yes any speaker cable should do. Just don't use a shielded instrument cable between the amp and cab.

You are fine as long as it's a speaker cable and not a guitar (instrument) cable.
