.38 rule

So...

Does the .38 rule also apply vertically?

In my 30x17 basement studio, I'm doing my mixing on the back wall, but using the 17' width and setting up gobos at around 9' (see pic)

I pulled my desk 6.4' into the mixing area to come into the .38 realm... I'm noticing now tho (with my new Adams) if I duck my head closer to the mixer, I'm getting a sweeter spot than just sitting up in my chair... The .38 rule applied to 7 foot ceilings = 2.66 feet... Roughly the distance from the floor to my mixer...

So... In order to get to the sweetest spot, do I gotta mix with my head down all the time?

I am thinking about moving the desk to the end of the room (where the keyboards are) and using the full room, but I'm not sure if I would gain enough to warrant the moving of equipment...

So, to all studio and acoustic gurus... HELP!!! ;)

Hi, Bent.
I´m not (near) an acoustic guru, but let me try:D
IMO/E, the rule applies to height too.

First, you should avoid your / monitors position halfway (or near, let´s say, between 42-50%) ceiling/flor - a bad place because puts everything in a null of first (height) mode (~82hz) and a peak of second (~164hz).In teory, at least .

As it´s impossible to sit even near the .38 height "floor --->ceiling", did you tried the .38 "ceiling--->floor"? (not so hard)
You can try to do the same with monitors,it should work (hey, I never tried the "ceiling---> floor" 38 percent because my height is almost 9',then I´m near (monitors too) the .38% "floor ---> ceiling".Nor "exactly", but "near".
