Coolio queepy! I remember this tune way back when...never liked it much, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say yours is better :).

I like what you did with your voice on this one...still plenty of FX, but a little clearer and crisper than some other settings you've used. Guitars sound real nice...solo is like anti-roxy music music (which is good).

Vocals are stretched a bit as you say, but not a deal breaker by any means. Really enjoyed this.:)

the original was very much a song on downers you're interpretation is on uppers.
I good juxtasposition - like when Reed did a slow withdawl laced version of Waiting for My Man.
Quite honestly this version is ACE. The slightly clearer vox help - the were a couple of points where you copied or parodied the languid vocal of Ferry that I though weren't necessary - if you ever consider retracking the vox consider that maybe. I only say that as this cover is beyond parody - it works as a new song.
I love the squiggly Hawkwindesque keyboards as well.
Sonically this reminds me of the John Foxx era Ultravox before they became new romantic woosies.

Thanks HM! I really tried to sing with a weird voice on this one....not to much fx other then that :p...when Roxy Music does a cover , they really change it to there style, so I thought it would be cool to try and change one of there tunes into a completely different style, which is why i did the guitar solo...was originally going to try a synth solo...but my one index finger technique is just not up to snuff yet :p. Now that I know how I wanna sing it, I am going to take another shot at the vocals, as this version is the last I did after many, many attempts at sounding a litlle more reggae like the original...Thanks again man!

Hey ray, yeah I wanted to kinda have a more amped up version of the tune as compared to the original.....I'm having a lot of fun learning to play the keyboards/synth...adds a lot of options ...funny you mention Ultravox...one of my wife's favs from back in the day, although she tends to favor the more "woosie" stuff of course :D
Thanks for listening...glad ya dug it!

Lol. I don't know the original, so I'm just gonna assume it sounds nothing like this. :D

What can I say? I'm truly a Queepy fan. Your shit is always energetic and freaky and has a frantic, mentally malfunctioned feel to it. And I mean that in a totally good way. I try to incorporate some of those qualities into my own stuff too.

My only nit is the vocals. It's not the effects, I don't think. I just can't really make them out. They dip in and out too much. Maybe compress them some/more?

The instrumental tones, arrangement, and performance are all awesome. Good stuff.

Dude, cool song.

The crunchy guitars and the surfy toned guitar sounds really cool. The drums sounds pretty cool. The organ sound is pretty cool.

The vocals do tend to go a little up and down and are hard to make.

OK, the solo just came on. Dude, that's a really cool tone on the solo. Neat playing too. Nice wails in places.

You get thumbs up.

Hey Greg, yeah man, it's pretty different from the original, which I think, has a kinda reggae vibe....I tend to move around a bit when tracking vocals, and I think that's were I'm getting the dips...gonna re-track them this weekend and try and get a stronger take...thanks for your comments...appreciate it!

Hey BB, thanks a lot! I'm digging using synths now...lots o' fun! Gonna fix the vocals and try not to go so Joe Cocker while tracking them :p
Thanks for thumbs up!!:)

Hey it's free, so.... :p

Love this tune. The only Roxy tune I really like.

Took me a few times to listen to get used to it, since the rythm is so much different than the original. I like the vocal effect and vibe you created in the tune. Everything sounds cool. Another Variax gem.

Really dig your freaky style, Queep ;)
I really used to dig Roxy Music (about 30 years ago...no wonder Greg doesn't know it :D) Nice cover on this one, it's a whole new song and that's positive. Recording sounds great to me. The synths give it a really nice texture and the guitar work is damn good. Well done!

Joe :):):)

have had the cold from hell the last few days so haven't kept up on this one...

Rami - Thanks a lot man, yeah, it is a lot diffrent from the original, which I really dig as well...I don't know , it just came out this way :p...thanks for the listen!

joeym - Thanks Joey! I was big into Roxy back in the day as well....especially when Eno was in the band!

Here is a new mix of the song...still have not redone the lead vocals as I'm still illin'....tried to get the drums (snare) to pop a bit more , cleaned up the guitar solo eq, and also messed with the synth levels both during the guitar solo and the verse's
Thanks again for listening!

Nice, queepy! I could never get into the original or Roxy Music in general, but I never tried too hard (AOR metal fan that I was).

Yeah - Ferry is haunting your vocals. If you do retrack (you don't need to, really), you should watch a monster truck demolition derby immediately beforehand.

I'm a big fan of the variaxman, but I'm not so sure about this one. It's not so much that it's different from the original which is cool, but the vocals just aren't working for me. I remember trying to cover Virginia Plain, simple song, but fuckme I just couldn't get near the vocal, the way Ferry sort of slides around the melody, almost off key, very hard to emulate
