motu gear is awesome

their tech support sucks.

but the product is awesome.

I concur. Its always been very solid for me on both Mac and PC. They have some of the best PC drivers out there and were one of the very first to have Vista compatible and 64 bit drivers.

If they would take effort to actually hire a technical support team, they could easily be industry leaders. Unfortunately, instead of taking cues from well supported companies like RME and even Presonus, they have chosen to follow the Tascam path of support. Too bad for them really. Where I used to really push MOTU hard, I now lean people toward Echo for devices at similar prices who would like the backing of a company who offers customer support.

PreSonus has better tech support the MOTU? Wow. I love my FireStudio, but getting support when needed has generally been iffy.

I dunno - I got a Traveler used, and it had a flaky firewire port (maybe because I plugged in firewire upside down, or the previous owner did, I'll never know) - I clearly had no warranty, but MOTU just charged a nominal replacement fee and sent me a new unit right away (after I sent mine to them) -- it was just one experience, but it was good.

I've been running a Motu828mkII daisy-chained to a Glyph firewire drive on my XP laptop for several years with ZERO problems.

Never had to deal with service or tech-support, but I'd buy another Motu again in a heartbeat....

i've seen that post like 6 times, good to know its that reliable. (its like me and my at 2020)

i'm saving for an 8pre i think.
