Saw that one, I wouldn't mind one. I would need to find one locally though, imagine shipping one of those??

I guess if you already have one, it's about having the parts if one breaks down.
So, you just use one, until it breaks down, then use the other, until it breaks down, and hopefully the same part hasn't worn, which is probably likely!

I have a TRS 8 that I've had for 2 1/2 years that I haven't had the chance to use yet.
I'm chomping at the bit to build and set up my studio at my new house...

TSR 8...........

Man, I really wish I lived in CA so I could pick that up...

I've seen a higher number of 388's on the market lately...

Tom_B, I just replied to your other thread about 424, 244 or 488...that thread is just about cassette-based units, but if you want the best sound in an analog "Porta"studio, it doesn't get any better than the 388. The mixing section and transport (and of course the format) together in one package is as pro as it gets for an all-in-one. The only contender would be the Akai MG1212/1614, but that is much more obscure and user/manufacture support is mostly non-existent, whereas you can still get parts for the 388, lots of active units and operators still kickin' around and the media is straight-forward (1/4" reel tape vs. the proprietary media used on the Akai decks that went out of production long ago...)

I picked up a 388 cheap and dropped it off at my local tascm fix-it place.

He just called and said that the bracket that holds the flywheel is missing (!)
and that tascam no longer has them ( he called)

He said the heads LOOK ok, but he can't test them while the transport is not
working.

Anybody have any parts, or want to buy mine?

It lights up and the mixer section passes signal, meters work, etc...

I'm in Northern CA, but i might be driving down to LA in the next week or two.
