Yes, but does it have to go on and on and on.....

You guys have made your point, Brad has left the building, can we please get back to the group buy? Please....? :)

Merry Christmas!

:D

Yes, let's return to the scintillating conversation about whether everyone's red nos are turning to green yeses, or if you have two red nos and one green yes, or two green yeses and one red no, and whether you've had green yeses for a long time but haven't got your stuff, or if you've gotten your stuff but still have a red no!

Carry on for another month and 20 pages of that, should be quite interesting :D Maybe, just maybe, somebody will get a yellow "it depends" :p

amen! since it seems we're self-moderating here, lets moderate this thread back onto the frickin topic!

OK...sigh

I'm going to repost what I posted 10 posts ago in the hopes that we can return this to the GB as well as (just maybe) get an answer to my question.

Even though I thought I would be last on the shipping list due to my request (being on deployment). However, today I received a green "yes" by my "invoice available" line. It's paid, so I suppose my wife will be receiving a very heavy box with 4 pres and 4 mics....what fun!

I suppose I'm not last - sorry guys...I was actually enjoying/empathizing reading the posts over at the "support group" thread. I suppose it won't be very long for everyone else now.

Another question, however - about 3-4 pages back I asked about the status of fixes for the ACMP-81...where are we on this? I don't have the internet connection or time over here in Iraq to go on much of a searching expedition all over the web. Could someone point me at the latest status on this. Bottom line for me is what is the projected way ahead after shipping completes. I won't be able to use this stuff really until April - but if there's no "generally accepted" way ahead to remedy the 81's noise/electronics problems by then, I'll be selling them right away. I'm sure they're fantastic pieces, and I was looking forward to using the preamp and its EQ capabilities as a hardware reamp/EQ sculpt stage for final mixes. However, between being in the military, doing gigs every weekend, doing church music every Sunday, and a growing schedule for local musician session scheduling (at least it was that way when I deployed) - I don't foresee any time for DIY electronic tinkering.

Anyway - just wanted to check in and say that one more GB member is now looking at a couple of green "yes's" today.

Hey Jay, yes there is a fix for the ACMP-81, and seems to be very simple. Zmix over at PSW solved it, fixed his, and working great and they are in the process of putting something together for the group 81 fix.

Hope you are safe, and thanks for your service.

I don't know that it is all that clear just yet. There is the transistor issue that Zmix addressed. That fix will clearly require either some soldering skills or sending the units to someone who has them. It isn't entirely clear to me whether that issue also exists for any of the other models as many of the boards and parts are used in all three models. There is also the inductor issue that Brad, among others, has been working on. Will simply shielding the inductors as Brad apparently did work sufficiently or will the power supply need to be moved? I haven't seen a definitive response just yet. There is the loud pop that occurs when rotating the gain dial to which the only response so far is to turn off your monitors. There is the apparent phase reversal in some (but maybe not all) units. Aside from the sporadic dead LEDs which some have reported, there may yet be other issues.

So, not necessarily so simple or, for that matter, completely known just yet.

But cannabis,

What a mess these ACMPs have become.

This may have been what Alan Hyatt was talking about and we chose to ignore him.

There will be a fix. It will either involve you doing them(if you have the time, ability and inclination) or you sending them away (an expensive propositon as they weigh about as much as a volkswagon beetle). As of yet, there has been some EEs offering up fixes but they have not been organized and presented in final form. There is still wide speculation as to what, definitively, is the REAL issue. More likely, there are MULTIPLE issues. Some have more problems than others.

The bottom line here is that these are quickly becoming more trouble than they're worth. These were not for the non-electrical engineer types and if you don't enjoy that type of work or have the time to do it, these are not for you. In their final incarnations, these may be pretty damn good but now? Not a professional tool.

The hope was that these would be an amazing value that rival some of the best pieces around. I think that cat has been let out of the bag. The fact is that these were hastily released, shoddy designed and completely untested.

I predict that those of you who were kicking yourself for not getting in on this will have plenty of opportunity to pick up 1 (or 10) very shortly.

As of yet, the word from Chance (whose intentions should never be questioned) is that they are compiling a master list of all of the issues that plague these units and that will be presented to the manufacturers at Winter Namm (in January). If you don't want to wait that long, a community member here offered up a work around for some of the units but he was run out of town on a rail quickly. He can be found over at GS. At any rate, fixes that are officially released by the manufacturer will simply have to involve either shipping costs or the time and knowledge/skill to do it yourself. There just isn't enough margin in these units to think otherwise.

Point taken!:) I do like the idea of the Yellow Maybe's though....(I had to use orange, yellow's too hard to see)

Hi Jay. Yeah, what Cannabis said. The PSW forum is where I've been going for "fix-it" info although lots of it gets reposted here. It's almost a daily undertaking to stay up with it all. :)

Keep you head down and be safe. Thank you for your service!

Hey Chance, what do you think about moving all discussion about this group buy to Gearslutz or PSW only? I'm sick of these pedantic arguments over "advertising" and just want to read a discussion about the TNC gear and fixes for their problems.

I understand the point that some are making about the fairness of the free advertising but it's gotten really obnoxious sorting through all the bitching to find out info on the TNC gear. I'm sure I'll get some angry responses to this post about how I don't really understand the principal behind the complaints. But I don't give a shit. Go ahead and give me some negative rep points or whatever (what's up with that anyway? is this a high school popularity contest?).

I just want to read about the group buy, and at this point I'd prefer to do it on another board without so many uptight members!

BTW, I'm still seeing the dreaded RED NO's, so if anyone else is still waiting you're not alone!

So....you can't read or you choose not to. Which is it?? Do a search. I won't spoon feed it to you.

Yes.

Warranty.

Earth.

OK, now back to your Cannabis, cannabis.
drBill, you may be a little naive

if this is the warranty

your talking about

TNC User's Manual said:
Service & Limited Liability
TNC Audio guarantees the microphone preamplifier to the original purchaser for a period
of one year (subject to the date of original invoice). Customer is responsible for any
transportation required, but for one year, TNC will be responsible for mending or replacing
any unit found to be defective (but not for units found to be abused or improperly utilised).

what is tnc?

this is the website http://www.tnc-audio.com/

where are you going to ship the unit?

who or what is tnc

as a legal entity?

chance has made it clear

that he is only helping us

buy this equipment

acting as a middleman

between us and the manufacturer

he is not responsible for

guaranteeing the fuctionality

of what we buy

(though he has been

helpful in past group buys

in attempting to

right any wrongs)

i don't think there is

a functional warranty

with this equipment

maybe chance can chime in

with his take on the situation

I think if you go back and look for "flames" ('cept for Gidge, but that's how he rolls) you won't find much.
werd, i talk to my peeps like that to show love..if I didnt like you, Id just ignore you..

so in other words, you guys were guinea pigs in the testing/QC phase of Chance's business venture...gotta love it..

Not that I'm taking your bait but it seems like a good time to reiterate that this isn't a business for Chance. I can't imagine for the life of me why, but Chance has done ALL of this, put up with immeasurable shit from alot of us and devoted countless hours of time to do all of this for NO monetary gain.

If that is a business model, Chance has more problems than these preamps.
