Group Buy Interest?

I think the only piece of gear I've bought in the last three years was a third UAD-1 card.
I'm not sure why you're even posting in this thread if you didn't take part in the group buy, but if you had spent money, perhaps you'd be more interested in the posts regarding upgrading the purchases.

Because it's a public board and I feel like it. Is your position that you should be able to trade in commercial products with dealers on this forum, and anyone who does not purchase said products should not be allowed to question your activity? If so, start your own forum.

At a bare minimum, such activity should be confined to Free Ads. BARE minimum.

sorry, if this is a "public" forum and Homerecording.com does not have well laid out rules regarding commercial use of threads (if it does please just give brad the link and lets be done and let him pay an ad) then i say by all means i'm with brad, give me all the options here in one thread, commercial or not.

and really? this entire 200+ page thread is a commercial endeavor, profit THIS time or not. LONG LIVE BULLDOG MICS AND PRES. I'm happy for chance and hope he's taking some cash home from this one.

again just link us to the rules where this is defined. please. i for one love capitalism, public forums, administer my own forum, and just LOVE communicating via the interweb....

My position, since you asked, is that this thread is about the group buy, and about various things related to it. There is no better place for posts regarding those items' performance, modification, and repair than this one. The only possible reason I can think of for a person to read it is to be interested in various aspects of participating in the group buy. If it doesn't interest you, you're welcome to read any other thread on this forum.

Sure, you have a Constitutional right to question what goes on, but that doesn't mean you're right. You're mistaking the two.

Have you complained to the moderators? I suggest you do that.

Brad, are there other manufacturers than Wima that would be equivalent in quality/purpose here? I ask because I have an electronics surplus store near me that carries a lot of parts, but not necessarily every value or brand. If I have a list of alternatives, I'm more likely to find what I need.

Thanks for this information, btw. I have four of the 310s, and I like them a lot - even unmodded. But I'm not afraid to tinker with them either.

Sure you can use anything you'd like that is 0.1uF, but that doesn't guarantee that you'll like the sound better than what's in there or what I used. It's fun to experiment though. I found the Wima MKP-2 really revealed more harmonics of the source material and gave it a better sense of space and depth, especially in the midrange.

I'd love to get my hands on a second 310. If you are open to the idea of selling one or possibly trading for an ACM3 please send me a PM.

Brad

What the 84 hum looks like

Here's a picture of what I captured for the ACMP84 hum. Notice the similarity to the ACMP73 noise.

I think I have a higher opinion of Chance than that . . .

I think Chance is a keen businessman with an innovative business model and I wish him all the best in this endeavor and in future ones. I love it when people have good ideas and succeed. He deserves it.

Now, right from the beginning, I will say that I don't think Chance is doing what you say he is doing. He says this is not for profit, I believe him unless you can prove otherwise.

So let's imagine someone else, such as yourself, coming up with the innovative business model of spamming boards rather than buying ads. Yep, that's really innovative. I wish I had thought of that first.

I was under the impression when the GB started that this particular thread on this particular forum was "home base" for all discussion and information related to the mics and preamps we were getting. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong and let me know if there is a better thread/forum where this information can be shared freely. I'd be happy to go there.

Sorry, but I bought two more this time because I liked the two that I bought last time. :) So I'm not much up for selling or trading them.

As for the caps, the MKP2 is designed specifically for high frequency use, but I suspect that they're talking about frequencies that are considerably higher than audio. But they also have other features that set them apart from, say, the MKS2. I just wondered if you knew of a comparable part from another brand - not just any with the same value, but other brands that had the same characteristics as the MKP2. But thanks for the info - I'll see what I can find locally, or perhaps I'll send off for the parts that you recommend.

I wish I could be more help. I just tried a bunch of stuff I had on hand and that happened to work out really well. The Wima stuff is nice because it's easy to get, isn't expensive, and sounds really good in audio circuits. I think I ordered mine from Mouser.

Good luck!
Brad

I have now. Dude, who are you? You have 19 posts, 18 of them on this thread. To be blunt, you are not a member of this community, you are a member of the group buy. This community is WAAAAY larger than the group buy.

If the rules are on mshilarious' side then I'm on board with mshilarious on this.

I thought Brad McGowan's offer was (and is) innocent, but once mshilarious pointed out that other gear/service providers who are making a profit are expected to buy adds rather than post (read: spam) then the right thing for Brad to do is stop posting and buy an add (again, assuming these are the rules).

If Brad doesn't do this he'd be breaking the rules, no?

I think Brad's offer is well intended but it could very well open the door to a crapload of advertisers spamming here, which I for one am not interested in, and I expect Brad's or anyone else here is not interested in either.

It would be nice if there was a new forum for this so folks like Brad and mshilarious could offer their products - but then how would the owners of the forum make money, etc, can of worms...

Wow, and I thought Gearslutz was a rough place at times.

I honestly thought this was the best place to share useful information about group buy mics and preamps. I guess I was mistaken. I didn't realize it was more of a running rant on spammers and terms and conditions infractions. Sure, I could buy an ad, but is that really the best way to let people know that there is an easy to implement fix for their non-working group buy products? I honestly just had to scroll up to see where the ads show up on this site. I hadn't even noticed them myself.

Anyway...I'm in the middle of the flu or something and all this makes my head hurt even more. So I invite anyone interested in solving their hum issues to join the productive discussion over on Gearslutz. There's been some good information posted there by a number of users. Or feel free to stop by my blog on my myspace page where I'll attempt to maintain some updated information about the problem and my progress trying to fix it.

Happy holidays!

Brad

Yeah, I think so too. They could charge admission for the vendors to be allowed to start a thread there. Other boards have retail forums, they are kinda crazy as the vendors bump their own threads constantly, but everybody knows what that kind of board is and they are free to avoid it :D

Thank you for clarifying that I am not a member of your community. How telling that you have a right to whatever you like, yet I do not, simply because I do not share your immense post count.

One may want to consider that the rules are perhaps more nuanced than just one statement that says No Advertising. If it is truly that simple, then the moderators should be ashamed for having personal For Sale posts. That's advertising too. And Chance's thread should have been deleted immediately, as it was advertising for participation in a buy. Whether it was for profit or not doesn't matter - it was advertising, after all.

My name is Craig Patterson.

Gidge's post was rude and quite unnecessary, and has been reported to the moderators, per the rules.

You both are very welcome to your community. I wish you all the best in it.
