A bit lost with my home 'studio'

I've just stumbled across this site, and i hope you can all steer me in the proper direction in my 'musical pursuits'. (if this is in the wrong section, i do apologize)

I've recently just got my old band together and I am interested in finding a program that can properly mix the audio that I've recorded so that i can produce for myself rather than pay $50-100 for some of these crappy local studio's here in Daytona Beach, FL that overprice for a crap job.

I'm not looking to do anything fancy. I'm not interested in thousands of effects or making my band sound awesome like some other studio queens...

I just need a bit of help with finding a proper program that fits my needs, i suppose.

At the moment i have a fairly good computer, so running the programs is not a problem. I'm just a bit strapped for cash right now, so if a program is cheep or free that would be great!


Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

We're talking <$1000 until I'm working at circuit city full time and not seasonal.

I WOULD like to use protools, but the learning curve is all anyone seems to talk about.:rolleyes:
 
Inexpensive Starting

Ok, this is about as low budget as possible. For recording you will only have your PC sound card (built into the motherboard in most cases now). You might check out a program called N-Track for the PC ( http://www.ntrack.com ). The guy has been adding to the program for years and it's worth every penny of $64. You can download it and try it too. I use Sonar, but N-Track will do the job you need it to for cheap.

How is FL Studio 8 as a mixing program? A Friend is willing to sell me his copy on disk for $50 (with his cd key). Potentially worth it? OR is FL Studio a waste of time?
