Hear is a sample of two of the nine original tunes I recorded for a local gospel band. All nine were recorded in one setting and one take. First time recording a brush snare and it was a little of a challenge. It was a quick recording and though I would have liked to spend time on it doing overdubbs, and fixing things better, they didnt want to spend an arm and leg. They were extremely happy with the results. I think they were surprised how well they sounded. Anyway give me some feedback. I mixed the bass up a tad higher than normal because it fits the style. I listen to alot of music styles, but myself Im a rocker. So this was a departure for me. I hope I did well. They liked it, so I guess thats all that counts. The style's so nice and 'traditional country sounding. I'd be tempted just to say drop the compression' back off to around '90's/prior levels- ('openig up' on the inst. backings for example? Good gig.

Thanks for the input. I did compress the vocals, bass and kick. I then used a 1.25 ratio on the final mix to tone down some of the peaks. They have more material to record in the future. And they know now what to expect as far as quality. So they are planning on me spending more time with them (for overdubs and mixing). I didnt charge them near what I should have (they are going to promote my services), but the next recording they will buy more of my time for a more polished mix. At some point with what I charged them I had to quit mixing the tracks and let it go. They were extremely happy, which makes me happ. Thanks again for the input and Im glad you felt I hit (pretty close) that old school sound.

These guys are really good, Bushmaster :)
Don't know, everything sounds pretty balanced to me. I don't hear any disturbing compression. Recording is OK for me. Coolsound, compliments to you and the guys ;)

Agreed. As far as my previous comment I should have said along the lines of the less forward older more open/depth/lighter presntation style or some such rather than pinning it all on comp'. Thinkin 'Grand Ole Opry here. Sorry. :)

Thanks for the props on the mixing. Came out pretty good for everyone playing in the same room and at a pretty loud volume. It was fun having someone else to mix other than my crummy self. Plus I got some scratch. I bumped up the piano a little. I used alot of volume automation, so the piano does come up during the leads. Which of course I only have samples of a two songs. But I felt it was a little too low. All the songs on the cd are very stong and catchy. They get your foot tappin. I got to post a few samples and thats it. :)
