I just listened to the vocals -- sounds good to me!

yeah - played Am, G, D, and that should cover the bass line - sometimes I played Am7 and Dsus2 and Dsus4, but those have the same root and dominant notes as the corresponding main chords.

PM Sent.

I finished the bass part. Eh, i'm not the greatest bass player, ya know. A couple of flubs here and there, but it should work. I did not eq, leave that for you to fit in with the other tracks. I used some compression and a touch of reverb. I hope it's okay.

If you decide not to use it, no problem. If you'd like something changed, I can do that tomorrow night.

Peace,

Thanks! I'll download it when I get home from work.

Can't wait to play with this stuff over the weekend!

What's your setup for recording drums BR?

same as for 200 Lashes?

Drums:
Custom DMR set with Keller maple shells, Pearl Steve Ferrone Signature Series Brass Snare

Cymbals:
All Sabian

Mics:
Snare - Audix D-1 at about 10:30-ish
Kick - AKG D112 - Batter side about 4" from the beater
Overheads - mxl 604's
Toms - Sennheiser e604's and Naiant MSH 10's

I think the only difference between 'Angel' and '200 Lashes' is Lashes had an SM57 on the snare, and I had the overheads in more of a Recorderman position this time...

Haven't had a chance to listen to the new vox or bass yet... And in case I haven't mentioned it, antichef's guitar work is incredible!!! :D

Thx for the details and the props, Bentrabbit! I'm slowly putting together a drum set (I should have a complete set in about 15 years, at the rate I'm going, which might be enough time for me to learn how to play 25% as good as you), but plan to start mic-ing snare and cymbals soon, and I need all the info I can get. (& welcome to the group heatmiser! :) )

I'll be on the road for the next week, but I'll pop in to check the thread from time to time -- probably won't be able to listen to any tracks or mixes on anything other than laptop speakers or earbud headphones :( But I'll be watchn'!

I never did get a chance to hack in a re-arrangement and do a longer solo.

I'm packing for a trip, but I did just sit down and plug in and improvise through most of the song before my ~2 yr. old came over and physically muted the strings. This track isn't usable "as is" (and it's completely dry - the SG into the MOTU), but, whoever's mixing, if so inclined, maybe can pick out fragments here and there to make up for the general paucity of lead guitar in the current tracks. I'm happy to reamp when I get back the week after next. It may be easier to not mess with it, but since I had a chance to do *something*, I figured I'd take it.

Anyway, here's the zip file:

Got as far as getting everything lined up yesterday. It all sounds really good. I've never had the opportunity to mix such excellent recordings. You guys all sound great.

I should get about 3hrs in the studio this afternoon to finalize some vocals.
Once I get everything tracked I'll render the tracks to stems and zip em up so everybody can have a shot at mixing.

Success! I put a rough mix together and burnt it to CD and then left the CD in her car so she could listen to it on her way to work. She was absolutely thrilled!
She asked me to pass along her appreciation to you guy for you efforts. She said that having different musicians involved made it all that much more special.
Compliments to all on the musicianship and the recordings!

I am still planning on doing a final mix, now that I don't have to sneak around I should be able to come up with something decent.

If anyone else wants to try a mix feel free. I might even put a few different versions on the final CD.
I'd love to hear what you guys do with this. I'm a little overwhelmed at all the tracks. So many options!

Has anybody downloaded the tracks yet. Are they OK? Does that megaupload site work well for everyone? I've never shared such large files before so I'm not sure I handled it correctly.

Thanks again for all your help guys! I'd like to try something like this again without a deadline. Maybe play around with it a little more.
If you guys are ever looking for some vocals on you tracks even if it's just backing vocals or harmonies be sure to let me know. I definitely own you all one!:D

Very cool. Im glad it worked out for you and the missus was thrilled. I downloaded the mega-file, but haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

I'm more than willing to help out on future projects and might take you up on the offer for some vocal work at some point.

Peace,
