comp specs

I am thinking of going pt and mac. I am looking at a power mac,
Processor: Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 Processor
Memory: 1 GB DDR SDRAM (4 x 256MB chips - 4 empty slots remaining)
OS: 10.3.5
Hard Drive: 150 GB SATA 7200 rpm
Superdrive: Read, write, and rewrite CDs and DVDs
what do you guys think of this used machine?
 
thanks rd423, it looked good to me but being a sonar/windows guy for years I'd thought I'd ask.

The bigger hard drive shouldn't entice (I hope that's spelled right) you because you would want to run at least 2 hard drives anyways, so save the money get the smaller hard drive and then buy you a backup drive to record and save all of your audio files to.
 
Which version of Pro Tools are you going to be running? If it's 7.4 you'll need to upgrade the OS on the first machine to either Tiger or Leopard. If you want to go with Pro Tools 8 when it's released then you'll need to be running Leopard.

I would always recommend more RAM; as much as you can afford.

Other than that the specs look fine.
 
rd423. yeah I have always used external drives for audio, pezking, I'd for sure bump up memory to 2 gig. Oh, windows I have heard for years cannot recogmise more than 2 gig in mem(then later I read 3.5 gig).does mac have any limitations such as windows as far as memory?

RAM RAM RAM. the more the better. it will make huge differences. honestly i wouldn't settle for anything less than 2gb of it. but not just any RAM, the faster the RAM the better as well.

With the ram on a mac, it's not the os you have to worry about you just have 2 see what the max is that the machine can handle.
