hey guys, i just bought the alesis dm5 pro drum kit. i will get it in a couple days. i was wondering how i would connect this to my computer to record it, i have a presonus firepod and cubase sx3.

i cant post a link yet untill 5 posts so you'll have to find it on google or something. sorry

it has 2 stereo outputs, and a midi out/thru

is there any way to record the kit so it shows in cubase the drums or cymbal as a different track each? like 8 different tracks for bass, snare, hi, mid, low tom, hihat, crash, ride cymbal.

i am wondering this so i could eq each one to get different sounds. or if i needed to raise the volume on one for whatever reason.

thanks so much.

hey I have a dm5 module as well and use it primarily for the kick or snare but With that it only comes out as one track. I haven't tried doing ti MIDI but from what i've heard/ understand if you plug it via MIDI the tracks will come out seperately.

Also inside the unit, you honestly dont even need seperate tracks. IF you spend enough time mastering the settings, you can doing ANYTHING to the sound from the pitch, to volume to panning.

I must say, the DM5 by far is one of the BEST things you can get for your studio, whether it's just your kick or your whole set.

The DM5 only has 4 outputs. You can send a kick out of one, the snare out of another and the rest of the kit in stereo out of the last two.

If you record the midi information, you can use a sampler in the computer to play the sounds on different tracks.

thanks for the replys, i am interested in possibly doing it with the midi setup, could i get a run through of how i set it up inside cubase sx3 with the sampler because i've never used midi before.

Your best bet would be the manual. It's pretty straight forward and simple, but way too much to type.
