Wow dude this is like a Greg_L cover or something.... :p

Ok, dude your mixes always get lost in the list before I get to comment on them. So this time, actively making sure to listen.

Very smooth. The shakers definitely add a new level. There are strings in the back? Feels like at some point a string section should occasionally throw in some notes....

The bass is very cool. The drums (congas, you said?) are sounding very cool. The playing is very nice and the guitars all sounds very cool. Very smooth. Good mix. Above my commentability level. :D (Rayc, you set a level for prolific posts. As a result I have to resort to creating new words. :) ).

Nope, no strings, and there won't be; I made a pact to myself that this one would not fall prey to my normal production sensibilities (layered, lush, and dense); it was to be all organic, all acoustic. But yeah I hear string parts. NO, MUST NOT PUT THEM!!!!! :)

Yeah, I love Rayc's archtypicifonic wordification.... :)

Thanks much, antichef. I stay out of the sun... :)

Thanks to you too, joey, that's what I was shooting for, simple. I'm not known for that, and it's scary ground. Musically speaking, I sometimes fear open spaces...

Next thing you know I'll be doing James Taylor covers... :) :)

Very refreshing, Phil, to hear hand percussion. The panning on the congas was a little off putting for me, but that's just me. I try to imagine a guy playing them and if one guy is playing both, he has really long arms.

Nice tune, enjoyed it.

Well, 'twas my first time mixing real ones, and I wasn't sure. I'll try a few placements out to see how they fare; I just didn't want them to sound monaural, ya know? :) Thanks!

Wow. This is nice and rich sounding. The bass sounds sweet and the guitars have a pleasant ringing quality to them. Actually reminds me production-wise of mid-70's grateful dead (maybe it is the phaser). I too felt the conga panning was a bit too extreme, but otherwise a very fine recording indeed :).

Nice sound quality, I like the wide panning on this.

The music is nice and mellow. The middle 1:45-2:00 etc is begging for a melody, it seems kinda bare. Love the percussion stuff, sounds great.

Thanks!!! That's where the flute (or mayge guitar) solo is gonna go... :)

Hi Llarion!!

Nice smooth tune going on here!

The hand shakers sound almost rattlesnakish at times...:D

I think you should add an electric lead to the song for some deeper conversation....;)

Love the congas. I have 4 of em and can't get even one of em to sound like yours!

EDIT: You can see I don't always read the post in a thread, before I post...right above this is your post about filling in with a guit or flute...lol

Phil,

Heather is a awesome song!

You'll probably dissaprove, but I added a mandolin to Heather (not the track I sent you earlier).

Forgive me if I over stepped my bounds by posting my addition, but I REALLY like this song.

Randy,

I'm not offended in the least; if it inspires you to play, you should always express yourself...

There were elements I liked very much indeed; but other parts that I thought were sort of wrestling the melody for control of the space, perhaps it's that the parts you added weren't significantly different rhythmically than the existing guitar parts, so it ended up being a tad busy in there. I wonder if a part that were more of a sparse, well-placed call-and-response accent thing, and/or using some of the more "traditional" mandolin strumming (by that I mean that really fast Italian-sounding thing) might be a better fit.

I need to get the solos I planned down first before I can really decide if it can use any additional texture, but I'm honored that you felt strongly enough about it to say your piece! :D Thanks!!!

And hugs to you, True... :) The congas are individually miked, and I just panned them individually too, shaping them with EQ and a bit of reverb...

P.S. - For those who mentioned it, I'm leaning towards narrowing the field a bit on the congas; not a ton, but some...

Hey, Rami, you out there? :)

+1.

Nice composition and performance !! I also would like to hear more on the higher end. Since you are planning for vox, maybe its moot.

IMO, dig the congas. I am biased so would like them to be tuned better-higher.

Excellent Llarion!
Nice song, performance,congrats!

Very well balanced lows and mids.
Not a "must have", but my taste would be for a little gain between 3 and 10k.

No, no vox planned, it's an instrumental... The congas are 10 and 11", the ragne they are in is where they resonate the best; I'd actually like lower pitched ones, go figure... Thanks for the listen! :)

Very nice!

Part of me wants a bit more brightness in the lead guitar, but I rather like the mellowness of the song the way it is. I would likely mess around with the hi's just to see for my self.

Great stuff.

***EDIT**** just realized I had my hi's pulled from listening to Stevehs album. I will listen again

Never mind on messing with the hi's. Sounds great. When I listened I had about 3db pulled at 12k.

Very nice!
