Here's a new little ditty. Just finished this one up today. Literally just a few minutes ago, so it probably needs some tweaks.

Lyrics:

You hear the voices in your head, they tell you what to do
You live in fear, you think that someones always watching you
Your mom was drunk, your daddy left when you were just a child
And now your wild – they say you gotta go to the psych ward ….

You got nothing to do, you got nothing to prove
They’ll take care of you in the psych ward
They give you your meds, then you lay in your bed
Cuz you’re better off dead in the psych ward
They do what they please then they roll up your sleeves
And you fall to your knees in the psych ward
The lights will go dim cuz you’re living in sin
And you know you can’t win

And you know, you gotta go, and you know
That you’ll never be sane again

Close your blinds, turn off the lights, and live in total fright
You never sleep, you hide inside the closet through the night
They’re kicking down your door, they’re coming through with loaded guns
And now you’re done, they’re gonna drag you away to the psych ward

You got nothing to do, you got nothing to prove
They’ll take care of you in the psych ward
They give you your meds, then you lay in your bed
Cuz you’re better off dead in the psych ward
They do what they please then they roll up your sleeves
And you fall to your knees in the psych ward
The lights will go dim cuz you’re living in sin
And you know you can’t win

And you know, you gotta go, and you know
That you’ll never be sane NO!

You’re in the pysch ward
And you know that you’ll never be sane in the pysch ward
You’re in the pysch ward
And you know that you’ll never be sane again

Whaaaat, no cover?????::eek::eek::D:D

Just kidding, you're amazing at both!

ROCK ' N ' RRRRROOOOOOLLLLLL!!! What a great song! Love the tempo changes, all the instruments are balanced, your voice is spot on, your drums a dream for me. This makes one feel like you wanna get up and smash a few things:D:D. Great going Greg, no nits from me.

Cheers
Joe

I agree with everything joey said. Pure unadulterated rock and roll. I think you hit the perfect balance of Kiss and The Ramones here. Awesome!

YUP the avataarrrr is the descriptor.
Cool ending too.
Can't say enough so I won't except - a little more bass.
Spot On!
& the album will be...?

The only thing I have a problem with is that there's a bit of painful sibilance on, well, SSS's (Psych ward and say no and never be sane) that might not even be audible at normal volumes (I'm testing out how loud my KRK 5's can get...which is very)

Well done.

Thanks a whole lot Joey, Riffmaster, Ray, and reklus.

Updated mix up top. Boosted the bass a little and tamed some of the sibiliance.

That's cool mang!
I'm not gonna lie... it pretty much rocks... :D
The drums are a rockin'... normally I don't like to hear much of a ride bell, but it works well here, The guitars sound great... what amps didja use?
The vocal harmonies were sweet! I liked the way you arranged them, so that they built up and stuff.
Do you play everything yourself? If so, that's quite a feat, in and of itself (obviously), but to start with your drums, playing alone on that song, would be a nightmare!

Peace!

~Shawn

Another perfect Greg_L cover -- you reproduced the Greg_L sound exactly -- you nailed it!!

But seriously, this makes me want to dig out my Suicidal Tendencies records -- kickass playing as usual!

What do you use for drum mics?

Good guitar tones. Kick ass punk energy with an attitude. Nice work.I'm surprised that I don't hear any Kings-X in your stuff.Just because they're from Katy doesn't mean you have to be inspired by them.:)

Another kick ass rocker Greg. No mix problems for me... Just a great tune that makes me boogie/head bop in my chair...

:cool::D:cool::D

greg's ability to do everything, and do it better than me... makes me sick. lol nice one man. can't think of anything i'd change.

Thanks Shawn. Yeah I play everything myself. That ride is a 22" Paiste 2002 Power Ride. I'm biased of course because I own it, but I think it has one of the sweetest bell pings ever. It's just right. Not weak but not obnoxiously overpowering either. I looked at a lot of rides, and this one won. All the guitars were done through Guitar Rig. I know that's cheating, but I'm a drummer, dammit. I don't have a bunch of amps sitting around. :D

Thanks dude. I love doing Greg covers. ;)

I use the CAD Pro 7-pc set. They're not very good, but they're okay. I've got my drums really dialed in right now and I like the way they sound, so recording them has been pretty painless.

Thanks Tex! I think Kings X is actually from Illinois or something like that, but they set up shop in Houston. I'm not a big fan of theirs anyway. They did buy a bass cab from one of my bandmates about 15 years ago though. We're practically related! :D

Thanks a lot Ido!

Thanks dude. I appreciate your sickness. ;)

Well done.

I love my little rokit 5s.. :) I don't use them for mixing, but I love em anyway.

Anyway Greg, I love the unadulterated exuberance with which you approach every tune you do, be it original or the dreaded cover. This one is no exception. You've got some Ramones, some Raspberries style power pop, lots of fun.

I agree on the sibilance, but I think it's a both a vocal track and master bus EQ and phasing problem... 8K is pumped pretty hard... it's weird because the underlayment is really solid, like it's just the backup vox with the problem, the lead vox part seems nice and thick and chewy. The toms and overheads are a little brassy.. Guitars sound great. Kick could be a bit firmer, but that's a taste thing and may not belong on a song of this genre, I dunno.

Anyway, I sometimes wish I weren't such a bunged up jazzer so I could write and record unabashed fun like this. Total props to you man!

Thanks for the props and the analysis. You may be right about the sibilance stack up with the backing vox. There's like 6 tracks all shouting the same thing, so there may be some build up there. I listened at home and in the car, and I notice it, but it's on the edge of what I'd deem acceptable. I'll probably go back in today and see if I can tame it more without going to deep into remixing. Thanks again!

great song and great sound ... again.. Loving the tom sounds and the stereo image of the kit..

good tune!

the mix sounds over compressed and mid rangey on top or too bright to me though..

maybe it's just me.

Greg,

So here's my main points on this song:
1 - It rocks.
2 - The singing rocks.
3 - The guitar playing rocks.
4 - The bass playing rocks.
5 - The drums definitely rocks. (Sounded very high energy and reminded of Skid Row in places).
6 - The Lyrics are standard rock 'n roll lyrics.

Overall, it sounds very polished. The mix itself sounds really neats. Just the right bass for the genre.

All instruments are played super. Mixed very nice. You're in a ways an inspiration to every one man band hoping to put together a cool track.... :)

Out-freakin'-standing energy as usual, Greg. How the hell do you do that? I really like the song and see it in film/TV on some really edgy sci-fi whacko movie.

Only one nit and it's only because I'm listening with cans: The rhythm git plays two measures of the lead in panned way over to one side. On cans it sounds too distant. Then on the third measure you have it in both speakers and it sounds full and meaty.

Couldn't you just clone it and pan it just right of center to balance out the far left sound?

Just tell me to shut up. It's a great song. Another Greg masterpiece.

Tell your dog I said hi,

Xeries:)

Definitely a lack here...

Of suckage.... :D

Nice job again, you talented bastard!
