brand new.

i play bass and guitar, and my friend thinks i can make interesting beats for him, so i got Reason 3, and got started.

here's the first of my efforts, unfinished of course, but i'm gonna send it on over to my buddy and see what he likes and what he doesn't like about it. i figured i might get some tips out of you guys, too.

i don't know if that link works... i'll try another: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=872371

I like it... you have musical skill which is nice.. you know how to create song build up and dynamics. Keep working at it... i can hear a rhyme on top of it.

thanks! i'm interested to hear what my friend does with it. i don't know a thing about mixing/mastering stuff like this (or really anything, for that matter), so i'm hoping it'll come out actually sounding good.

doc4 is hot . . . smooth vibe to it . . . may need a little more . . . "flayva" i.e. switch ups or added strings or some "keep ya intersted" touches . . . its kind of a long ways to get to 50 seconds in .. but that bass line is real nice!!!

the 2 minute break down is good! and then following back to the bass line . . oh yea!

thank you! it is kind of drawn-out. i imagined the vocals would usher it along, but we'll see. i'm not sure how to design a track for an as-yet-unwritten lead part.

I like document 4.. I like the dynamics already added, but i think i would use chords to fill in the verses they are a little bare, then switch to build with a synth or strings. The drums can be beefed up just a little as well. Do some switchups to make the verse sound different from the chorus with the drums.

just my 02 pennies

thanks! i was kinda thinking that too, about the bass. it sounds really different on all the different speakers i hear it through, so i'm working on getting a good compromise, or just figuring out how to mix better.

talent..

You do have talent guy! Keep doing what you do. The longer you work on your music the more you will find new tricks.... Good stuff for starters!!!;)

thanks a lot!

rory just uploaded what he did over the demo of the first one (document 5) to his myspace. i've been working on it a lot since i gave it to him, and it's actually taken a bit of a moby-ish turn. at least that's what i get from it, maybe that's just me though. it's weird, the tune has taken on a whole new life! it was originally a guitar riff for a punk band!

do the bumpty bump! i fixed the tunes up a bit, and uploaded them to my myspace. i also gave them new names, "Mane Street" and "Colfax and St. Paul".
