Hi, I've been searching this forum for patchbay info for a while now and can't seem to find the answer to my question...I am running Cubase SX4 and have a Tascam FW-1082. I have some outboard gear (Compressors, FX, Limiters) that I would like use with a patchbay. What I don't understand is how can I hook up the patchbay to the FW-1082? It only has 1 set of outputs for monitors. I want to be able to record a dry signal and then route it through an effect and then record the new sound on another track.

For example, I mainly record vocals...I would like to record the vocal "dry" and then apply different effects or compression to it. Then I want to record the modified sound to another track. I just don't see how this is possible with a DAW with only 1 set of outputs? I have heard that I should hook the patchbay up to the insert lines of channels 1&2 but this doesn't seem right...

Please help. Thanks in advance.

But it's the only thing that will work... plug an insert cable into the channel, route to the input and return on the output of any string of effects and you're in business... If you want to record the effect to a different channel after tracking just route the performance out channel one, "one click" the jack on the insert out to the effects and return to a line in on the board.

But can you say plugin? The Tascam really wasn't designed for this

Yea I know plug-ins but I can't find any that I like. Do you know a plug in set that will work with cubase and give me a bunch of good effects for good value?
