Connect the tape outs of mixer to inputs of soundcards, and outputs of soundcard to tape ins of mixer and turn up tape in knob. This will only allow you to mix two channels, left and right. For more, you will need a better interface.

thanks I do see what you mean. but I did at least get some sound going through the board and used thed pres they are pretty good, looking for a new sound card now it will be my 3 rd

Get a proper "soundcard" (interface).

What exactly are you wanting? Around 6 outputs and 2 inputs(Presonus Firebox or something similar)? This will allow you to record upto 2 tracks at a time, then output 6 at a time to mix down and rerecord as stereo.

You might be better off just mixing "in the box" or buying a control surface(to control what's on screen), maybe the Behringer BCF2000.

If you're wanting to record more channels at a time, you will need a better interface. Maybe something like the LEXICON OMEGA STUDIO. You could use the 6 pres on your mixer, then the 2 pres on that for 8ins, but it only gives 2 outs. Or just sell the mixer for what you can get for it and get a presonus firepod(fp10).

If i was starting a small bedroom studio i'd get the firepod and a behringer bfc2000 i think.

If you are really considering a using a mixer for recording, try this website for setup instructions. ttp://www.tweakheadz.com/how_to_hookup_a_mixer.htm

I would not use the RCA (CD/Tape) Main outs. Doing so effectively by passes the "Main Control" portion of the mixer. I'm using a 1222FX which is similar.

If you are using the Behringer shipped USB interface...

Get a pair of XLR(Female) to RCA cables.
Live Wire #CPR-305
Get a matched pair of RCA to 1/4 cables.
Live Wire # XRF-110
(they have different lengths)

Attach the XLR's to the Main outs on the rear of the box and connect the RCA's to the Input side of your USB Interface.

Grab a Stereo Channel, 7/8, 9/10 ..etc, connect your 1/4 jacks to the L/R of the stereo channel and then, obviously, connect the RCA's to the associated Output ports on the USB Interface.

This will allow you to take full advantage of the Main Mix Controls, EQ as well as the FX options, although the FX should work either way.

Chap.

Hmm, doesn't the tape outs just send the same thing as the main outs? Using the tape ins means that you don't get EQ, but why would you want to use EQ on the pc output unless you were re-recording it?

Balanced signals are prefered, but it will be send to RCA inputs anyway, so that doesn't matter.

I would use the tape ins/outs as the only benifit of not, is EQ on the pc output, which I really doubt you'd need anyway. It leaves the rest of the channels and outputs for anything else you might wish to use them for.

Did you get your mixer working right...I made some breakthroughs with mine in the last 2 days...certain buttons need to be engaged on the mixer in order to get the best playback...The mixer seemed to be recording o.k. and then playback would be barely audiable...I am going to make a video in the next week or two for new guys like me so someone else doesnt waste a bunch of time getting the darn thing to record...
