WhiteStrat

Don't stare at the eye.
I posted a "sketch" here recently, and due in part to the feedback I received, I've taken my "Anthem" style song to the next level. I've completed the bed of backing instruments and added healthy doses of lead guitar wanking on top. Ahhh...I loved the 80's. :D

Your comments are appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Everything seems to be nice and balanced. I can't wait to hear this with vocals...

No nits so far, although I am typing as I listen...

It's got a real Satch feel to it. Nice lead playing. Damn, I wish I could play like that.

Really cool song. Now I can't wait to see what you do with mine.. :D

Sounds really good, especially the acoustic guitars. Some very cool "wanking" and a melody to tie it together. I would like to hear a little variation in the tone on the main lead, but that's me. Shaping up to be a blockbuster.

Rokket--thanks for the kind words. I can't wait to see what I do with yours as well--coming up next!

I love the lead playing - shredilicious - lol The rhythm has some nice crunch to it too. The lead sounds like a Tube Screamer, with some OD once in a while. Would love to know the lead guitar chain.... I really think this stands up well as an instrumental. Maybe vocals by joeym  to complete the total rockin' sound! That would be sweet....

I love it!!...But...you could bring the lead up a bit..in fact, you could eat up everything else with it and it'd still make me have heart flutters and a racing pulse!!

You've taken the song to another level of expression and made it all yours...your touch..your heart. Most excellent playing Strat...you are a guitar god!!!

I know I am going on and on...but this just moves my soul to all kinds of emotional spasms ...and anybody who comes here, to hear and reads my post, know that I get like this sometimes!!...:D

Thanks, man! Funny you should say that, because joeym & I have been scheming the same thing!

As far as the lead chain goes...I was afraid someone was going to ask. I love my amp, and I love my mics, and I'm such a big proponent around here of recording killer guitar tones...BUT...I was dying to finish this song and I could never get to it in reasonable hours (I'm a real night owl). My studio's not done yet, so it's me in the basement in a bunch of 2x4's under my bedroom where my wife is sleeping. :(

I just needed to get this out of my system, so I used the POD. I will seriously come back and redo it if I have the time, because I liked the tone I was getting out of my amp better, I just wasn't finding enough "loud" time.

BTW--if you have a POD I'll send you the patch if you like it. It's built from scratch and a real nice one to use for leads with humbuckers.

Oh man, Bob, this sounds so beautiful! There's so much feeling in the guitar playing, I love it. It would be an honour for me to sing on it:):):):):)
I'vr gotta do Rokket's song this week, cos he's gotta go away soon, but just tell me if you decide.

Cheers
Joe

Just to clarify--I meant that we had discussed the possibility of you singing on something for me--but I'm afraid this one's already spoken for (Sorry!). True's getting inspired with some real sweet vocal ideas...

But don't worry--there's more of that 80's anthem madness in me! We'll connect on one! :D

Would love to get the POD patch - my buddy Mike is bringing over his new POD tonight and is leaving it with me for a few days to play with. PM sent with email address....

Sounding really fine there Bob-the acoustic tones especially. The Pod has some very cool tones happening there, I'm pretty much in the same situation with using direct to work out the song structure, mostly the rhythm parts I end up using are the direct parts I originally put together.
I use an old Johnson J-Station that has some great simulations and a very amp-like setup with analog knobs to tweek.
What was the guitar used on the leads-a Strat style with humbuckers by chance? Again-some great playing and tones
------Tony!

I PM'd you back, but I should have asked: do you know what kind of POD he's got? Mines a PODxt Live--meaning it's the floor version. But it's patches will work with the PODxt "bean" too--I just know they don't go backwards to work with the POD 2.0. And I have no idea about the new X3 or whatever it is they call the latest and greatest...

Not sure what model but I believe it's the latest rack mount piece (X3 Pro maybe). He's dropping it off later today....

Thanks Tony! I used to have a partner in musical crime who had a J-Station--in many cases, I liked the tone of it better than my POD. In fact if I weren't so obsessed with with perfecting the art of recording "real" tones, I'd snap up a discontinued j station. This was just a fall back that I used the pod...

And nope, it wasn't the strat. I've been untrue to my own name lately, I just can't stop playing my epi les paul. I had some fun with a real cheap "Special" (that's the $150 version!). It was playing so well for the buck, that I took it apart and replaced every single piece of hardware with black. Tuners, strap buttons, tailpiece & bridge--even every little screw. My son was flattered that I cared enough, since he gave it to me. Anyway at the same time I put in some Steve Vai pickups which I just love. So for a song like this, it's my go to axe right now.

... and it's the one I want you to use on my little ditty, ok? :D

sounds pretty good man! i agree w/ true that the lead could come out front a bit. i'd also tuck the hats back a touch.

the title is quite apt. it sounds like something that would play during the happy ending of some 80s movie or something. here's the scene as i see it:

the kids have vanquished the monster, and the anthem starts fading in, the movie sound fading out. the unlikely hero--some dorky dude--has now won the hot girl from her douchebag hotshot boyfriend, they kiss. now the music is really going, movie sound is completely gone--video only. the hero and his new girlfriend, are bum-rushed by all of their cheering friends who seemingly come out of the blue, like they were waiting to celebrate the defeat of the monster but weren't around for the fight (but it's all very celebratory and a happy occasion nonetheless--no hard feelings). the whole gang is giving high-fives, drinking schlitz, and laughing. the mob hoists the happy couple onto their shoulders, and in the background you can see the hotshot douchebag ex-bf sulking, perhaps kicking a rock as he walks away alone, just as defeated as the monster. :D :D :D

I guess I was tricked by your 'Strat' username...:o I bought a Epi LP Standard with the plus top last December and have been using it quite a bit in my recordings-I tried a lot of them out locally and the one I brought home was the only one with a proper setup, best feeling neck, and the lightest of the bunch.
I'm considering a new bridge pickup at least, tho the original isn't bad at all-I'm off to see some specs on the Vai pickup. Again, ripping guitar playing!!!!:D
