Well, I'll have to let you get away with it this time.
My '70 Deluxe has been getting a workout lately. I've downsized all my gear (anything over 50 lb is gone, and the rest has wheels) and a friend noted that I had ended up with everything but a really good guitar amp (somehow my '63 Sears Silvertone Twin Twelve nor my Pignose G40V qualified as really good) so I started to do some research.
This same guy has what I consider the gold standard in amp tone, a '67 Fender Super Reverb. I thought about getting a reissue (used ones are sky-high and fragile to ship) but the weight put me off. Then I stumbled upon Fender's best-kept secret, the Jazzmaster Ultralight head and cab. The head is solid state, about a foot by 4" by 8 " and weighs 7.6 lb; the matching cabinet has a neodymium-magnet 12" speaker and a magnetic docking system for the head, and weighs all of 17 lb. I checked out the Harmony Central reviews and decided to order one.
I was able to trade other gear for most of its price (the head and cab together go for $1070US street) and ended up putting up $250 cash.
Tell you what, it's the Super Reverb of the 21st Century. Me and my pal put it head to head with his Super and the only deficiency noted in the JM was that it has the modern digital FX select knob instead of the venerable Fender tube reverb. Too bad, but it more than makes up for it in other areas. Everything is well thought out. I predict that there will be a lot more around once word gets out.
By the way, this is my first solid-state guitar amp since I got the Silvertone in 1974.
So, you gonna buy that honey? Frisco's not that far away, after all....
