Reason Editing Question

Unpossible!
I have a question about editing in reason. I open up Reason 4.0, and try to edit notes in the sequencer via the drum edit, or piano roll edit, and I can't move notes or add notes. Sometimes it let's me, but then it grays stuff out and get's all screwy. The manual that came with it is worthless, and the html help isn't helping. Anybody got any ideas? Or, a link to a good tutorial? I know how the basics work, but there must be a couple settings that I don't know about.

Thanks in advance!

I will admit, drum sequencing is the ONE thing I hate about Reason 4. Reason 3 was SOOOOOO much easier...so I only use 4 after the drums are done (if at all).

I do know that you basically have to do it section by section (I believe with the pencil tool). I wasn't lucky when trying to move notes and such.

BTW when you gonna do something with that beat fam? Ears are waiting.

Yes, you do have to edit each section. To edit a section double click it on the top. You can only copy and paste notes while the section is selected. You can create a section to draw in notes or paste notes with the pencil tool. I was also confused at first.

Cool! Thank you. I will try that asap.

I've been working on it. Gave him a copy and he REALLY liked it. Dude is hard to get a hold of, but he said next time he comes in he'll have they lyrics ready to lay down. I will let you know the minute it's done. Thank you again. Everyone I've played the track for has dug it as well.

No Problem. I've been browsing these forums for a little while trying to learn some stuff and decided to finally register when I saw your question. Glad I could help someone else out for once.

I don't know about you guys, but I find Reason 4's quantizing horrible. Some don't use it, but I do. It was good in all of the Reason versions before that one and it helped me make beats faster (less time used to correct mess ups).

Other than that, it's solid.

yea when i initially got reason 4 i thought it was a little stupid they tried to give it an acid/ableton look then they have that floating window with all the quantize and other gubbins which is even more annoying when after all these years you cant make reason full screen.

I use it more like an instrument rather than a drum machine though and do most of my midi tracking from orchestral sections to piano tracking. After a couple of days though i got used to the quantize nd actually find it much better since you can dial in how much quantize in terms of a percentage. what i think is confusing to most people is the fact that most of the quantize functions have been negated by the inclusion of regroove which to me is ok if you like to dial in groove on a slider but not for everyone but each to their own

I must have missed this one. A dial for quantizing on R4? Hmmm. I know you could change the quantize percentage on all the previous versions and I knew you could in R4. I had just done it through the separate window (which I hate anyway...along with no full screen).

Well. it's still a no-go. I am about to give up and sell my copy of reason. It shouldn't be that difficult.

Anybody want to buy a copy of Reason 4?
