Hey! Sounds good as usual.

The only weird thing is when I sit in the mix position, the drums seem a bit distant (not a lot, just a bit). However, if I step into the next room and listen from there, they sound huge! Not sure why that is, but they sound amazing when i stand in the next room.

Yeah, my stuff always sounds better when I stand in the next city. :D

Haha! :D

I always listen to mixes from the next room, it helps balance out elements. However, it usually isn't this extreme of a difference. Like I said, I can't even hazzard a guess as to why. Heck, it really doesn't even matter, the tune sounds great.

Hmmm....Interesting. Thanx for the comments, NL. I wonder if maybe I used too big a room for the reverb, so it sounds distant when you're able to feel the reverb, and not so bad when you're listening to a more vague mix from another room. I'll have to experiment and see if that's it. Good ears for you to be able to discern that.

Thanx man.

I tried lsitening from the next room and it sounded like it was in the next room.
Listening now with h/phones & the drums are in the pocket and rocking.
I've tried to get my head around slide & can't get anything but detuning noise.
You really have it nailed RAMI.

Download done!

I talked about song and "playing" before, but congrats again, ok?:D
A little suggestion... mix (or,obviously, separeted instruments...)could be benefit of some slight gain on mids (I tried a parametric around,800hz wide region). It defines a bit guitars and vox.
And some boost around 120hz (comparing, bass frequencies don´t sounds as "dry" and defined as "Save you now").

But is another song , and room...
(just curious, how´s the room sound (treatment?) compared with the "old" room)?

General, Pretty good job (and considering is the first song recorded in the studio, excellent)!

Thanx alot Ray. The hardest part about learning the slide was getting the slide straight on the fret and actually making a sound. After that, I just cheat my way around the fret board using the slide to play the chords by starting with a "G" (open 2,3, and 5th string...)and moving up for any other chords...If you know what I mean.

Thanx for the advice, CIRO. I am still getting to know my new room. And even having my speakers further apart than they were is taking some getting used to. I'm still trying to get the drums right, because this place has a lower and harder ceiling. I have traps everywhere but on the ceiling, so I have to solve that problem.

I wonder if anyone knows if tacking a few thick blankets to the ceiling will do any good??? Or am I wasting my time doing that?

My experience is only with rockwool traps on the ceiling (mix position, 2 panels and 8" thick). But mine are pretty soft (2lbs w/ frame), and I´ve reading that they are so effective or even better than the high density...following this theory, the blankets could help, but probably coasts more than this 2lbs rockwool...

After putting the traps on my corners (only a mixing room, just remembering),the things was "more or less", and only started to be really good after this thick clouds. I have 14 traps on my ~11,5 x 9,4 x 8,6 room.

Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I clicked on the song link I had my monitors cranked past 50%.

WOW!!!!

When I say it's good.......it is.

Yeah, but you didn't say it was good, you just said it was loud.:D

Thanx buddy.

I'm finally back online at home...WOOHOO!!!!

I fixed the download for the tune, too. What you guys have been listening to is a 96kps stream. Here's the 320kps download.

dude - best RAMI song ever. Great guitar playing - no nits at all. Slide playing is very well done.

/cool

Hey Rami, been wanting to check this for a week now...had a problem downloading in the beginning, and now my work is blocking yours( and other) music sites, so finally getting a chance at home...anyways..
Super tight sound as usual from you...Great job on the slide! Your guitars always sound great, but the addition of slide will add lots of possibilities to your sound..love the funky swagger this has...your bass guitar also is really tight and dead on..great, great song man...congrats!

Thanx, man. That makes my day.

Thanx alot, Axeman. Coming from a guitar player I respect alot, that means alot to me.

Rami, are you using the same setup as previously for guitars? I think the guitar tone is improved.

Vocally, as well, I think you have progressed to a level where you can "think" in harmony. Is that making songwriting easier for you? You've always been very prolific, but your songs are getting more complex rhythmically and melodically.

Slowing down? :D

Yes, it's the same set-up. But, I'm learning the different ways to get sounds by playing with the tone and volume nobs on the guitar, as opposeed to relying totally on my stomp box. Well, I'm glad it's improving. Thanx bro.

"think in harmony"...Good way of putting it. I find, in general, lately, my songs manage to write themselves in my head easier, rather than having to force parts out. Often, I find myself having the choice of 3 or 4 different melodies for the same chord progression. This helps for "variations on a theme" type of stuff.

I guess, like everything else, you can't buy experience. You just have to keep writing until your ratio of good-to-shitty songs gets better.:D

That sounds fantastic man. It's a good thing too, because it took me like 20 minutes of fumbling around on that site before I realized that I really needed to load it in IE for the player to load. I have firefox set to crush anything and everything I don't ask for. I don't even see pictures. :D

As expected, it sounds fantastic. I personally love the slide in the beginning...I read a book once (shocker, I know); it was about home recording and about mixing in general - I can't remember the name of the guy that wrote it, but while it didn't help me much with getting decent recordings on a 4-Track, it had some advice in it that has meant more to me through the years. The one that sticks out in this song is "finding the center" of a mix. It wasn't talking about stereo balance; more like, every mix should have an element that stands out musically, and once you figure out what that element is, base your mix around it. Sometimes it can be as simple as a tambourine. In this mix, the "center" to me around which the whole groove is formed is that slide part, and for that reason, I think it's totally cool that you started the song with it.

Hugs and kisses,
Chris

Hey Chris,

Thanx alot, man. Just so you know, I posted a link to a download of the tune a few posts back. I'm not able to edit my first post in this thread. For others just tuning in, it's here:
This is a 320kps file, as opposed to 96kps streaming file in the first link.

Thanx alot for the kind words on the song. What you were saying about the "center" of the tune isn't something I've ever thought of consciously, but maybe something I've (we've all?) always done sub-consciously. That's good advice, though. Thanx.

Dude, you don't need any "advice" from me, lol.

Besides, I can talk about some crap, but I never follow any of my own advice. My electric guitar tones always sound like ass, (but I can tell everybody how to improve their tones), my mixes are usually vocal heavy (but I can tell people about balance), and I can tell everybody the importance of mic'ing up an acoustic guitar (and then plug in my variax acoustic). :D

Oh, yeah!

Excellent. Tight. Interesting throughout. Great sounds. Great performances. Well thought out.

Basically, everything I love in a song.

Slide is a real bear. I suck at it. For every note, there's like 17 unwanted noises right along with it.
