Yeah! Vocals sound way better than either of the prior two numbers. You tightened it up a bit it seems. Not quite the broad spread to the voices as last time maybe? Nice job...this sounds by far the most slick of the three.

Excellent! Love the musical arrangement, and the female vocal is perfect. The male rapper sounds a little lispy, and it's creating just a slight bit of sibilance. I'm guessing you already de-essed it. It's probably more of a performance issue than anything.
I'm interested to know your vocal setup, if you don't mind. The sound quality is excellent.

Thanks! Yeah, I brought the backing vox tracks in a even more, and edited them to be as spot on as I could. The other two were unedited. I also brought the effects down a bit more, as well as the overall level. I think I'm getting it dialed in finally.
Yeah, he's a bit sibilant. I cut out a bunch of it (it was way worse). I'm gonna cut out some more, and if need be, I'll add a de-esser.
The sound quality isn't what it could be. I record in my living room/great room, and have most stuff, like the fridge, on switches. The computer though makes quite a bit of noise, and he was so quiet I had some issues with fan noise in the tracks. Same for the gal singing.
The vocal chain was a UM92.1--> MP2NV--> Purple MC77
The real secret is compressing the bejeezus out of the vox. I use either 8, 12, or 20:1 on the Purple - this was 20:1 - and make sure I get pretty hefty GR - (get the needle bouncing all the way left at the loud parts). Then, I put a UAD 1176 on 20:1 in the mix and hit the GR even harder.
Main vox has no eq. His back vox have a bit of 12k shelf cut (2db) and hi-passed at 160. The gal has very minimal eq as well. I think a 1 db bump at 3.2, and a 2db boost on the 12k shelf.
Both have 3 verbs on them as well - in varying amounts depending on the track.

The point I was trying to make is, the chain has less to do with it than the treatment. I could get 95% or better results with a 4033 into a motu pre - been there. It's the compression that makes it shine. The uad 1176 is VERY close to the mc77. Unless you have a great monitoring setup, I'd be surprised if you could tell the difference. Maybe I'll try and do a shootout.......
Oh, and that vocal chain cost more than my truck too!

Thanks Ido1957. Yeah, there are three verbs, but I backed them off on here voice as well as the main vox - in fact, more. Maybe I'll bump them back up a bit.

Very warm and well placed. The only thing I don't dig about
the beat is the constant sample "clicky" sound in the back.
Other than that, great tune and mix!

That made me LOL. That clicky thing drives me crazy! I didn't do the beat on this one, and it's just a stereo track, so there was only so much I could do with it. But yeah, I agree 110% that clicky thing don't fit.

hahah, for a minute there I thought there was something
wrong with my speakers... by the second time I played the song
I realized the click was part of the beat... lol.

Sounds good. I suggest louder vocals, I can make out maybe half of the words. That may be their diction, but either way it has to be really clear.

No offense, but why don´t you keep recording with Motu and some midpriced mics instead of buying expensive stuff?
Don´t take it personal... I´m a drummer, and if I could spend 1k on my whole set instead of 5k (just to make a 5% difference), I would choose the cheapear stuff.... And with the other 4k I would to Bahamas!

As in all things in life, the law of diminishing returns is in FULL EFFECT with pro audio gear. It's those last few percentage increases that really get you.
Besides, the mic's I bought are worth more now than when I bought them. Same goes for ALL my analog gear. It's an investment!

As a musician, gear is just not important. No gear will make you go from bar to arenas... Fender and Pearl and Yamaha wanna people believe that, but I doesn´t work that way...
I can understand the investment part...
Anyway, I´m glad your happy with your equipment... I still think that 5% of difference IN GEAR is not worthy 4k (well, it also depends on how wealthy you are...)

Now, I believe that the musician is the bulk of the sound, however, I have yet to know a musician who thought "the gear doesn't matter" - usually they are OBSESSIVE about their gear. You are by far in the minority on that one. I'm striving for perfection - still have a long ways to go.....
