So I'm attempting to run my amp head through my Firebox. And because I have no idea what I'm doing really I'm just going through the main speaker output on the head to the line 1 in on the firebox. It's coming in way to fucking hot though and clipping like no ones business... What am I doing wrong or is it even possible to run a 100watt amp head through a firebox?

Not advisable. That signal is way too hot. Some newer amps are equipped with a "recording out". But, if I remember correctly the Dual Showman hasn't been made in years so it would be waaay too old to have one of these.

.. And hopefully not without a speaker load.
Some DI's will set for speaker in'. (We have Stewart ADB-1. How much power they'll take I do not remember.
Got mic? :D

Thanks for the advice. I figured as much with the ridiculous tones I was getting. The only reason I'm trying this out is because I'm without a cab at the moment but figured I'd give it a shot. (Came home from college for the summer, brought my head, left the cab with a friend.) After that I realized it probably wasn't a smart thing to have tried...

Actually... I was just looking at my head and my monitors (M-Audio BX5a) and got an idea . (I have some time on my hands and am trying to understand my gear and how it all really works) Is it possible/advisable to use those as a cab?
On the back of the monitors it reads:
LF Amp. Power:40W/HF. Amp. Power:30W
Input Imp.: 20K ohms Bal./10K ohms Unbal.
The outputs for my amp read:
Ext. Series / Main Speaker / Ext. Parallel
and then an impedance selector with 4, 8, and 16 ohms...

Anyway, not meaning to be a bother! I'm not going to try anything else until I study up/read/research. Thanks again!

Cheers!

Wow. May I advise- Slow way down- untill you get some basics sorted out.
Amps into speakers only. (And the right speakers for the job- Dual Showman > 1" dome tweet = death
Your M-Audio's have a power cord? That means there is more going on there than just a speaker.
Get Thine Manuals. Read, then ask more questions. :)

haha agreed!!! I posted recently on another forum and got chewed out super hard. I'm new to tube amps and I bought my Showman used... no manuals. I got to excited... and handsy...

On the plus side, if the Dual Showman is in good shape they're pretty cool amps.
