candy from sweetwater?

You're right about their prices not always being competitive on everything. But they do make up for it in some ways: free and fast shipping (usually two days from when I order it), 6-12 months no interest payments with their credit card (this offer pops up a few times a year), sometimes they'll run a 10% off sale (and that's off their regular price, not some jacked up fake price), and I'm not kidding about the great service.

I've bought a fair amount of stuff from them and I've always dealt with the same salesman. There's something to be said for that. He keeps track of what gear I own so when I questions about anything, he has some sense of where I'm coming from. And once you build up a relationship, you start to get discounts that aren't made public. For example, when I bought my Blue Woodpecker, I got it for $100 cheaper than any other dealer was selling it.

They stand behind what they sell and if anything is wrong, they fix the problem in a way that causes the least hassle. I had to send a damaged piece back once and they put the new one in the mail right away without making me get the damaged piece back to them first. Not too many companies would do that.

And they give me candy. :D

So you are generally paying the website price I take it? And, yes, good customer service is very important. I'm a tightwad though, and have always used discount vendors - and they have excellent customer service as well, plus you get 10-40% off. I will say though, Sweetwater called personally to thank me for my order after I ordered through the website, and that has bever happened before. Of course, I put my wifes number in, so she was a bit surprised. Oops.

It might not be a bad gig. I'm betting you get a pretty decent discount on gear. I know my salesman there has a pretty sweet studio with a nice amount of high end gear. The only bad part is you have to go live in Indiana. That would probably be the deal breaker for me.

Yep... thats the deal breaker at the moment, but my wife and I have talked about doing it and we're still considering it. At least Ft. Wayne is cheap to live in. Cheaper than where I'm at now!

Oh, and you get all of your gear at cost. :D

Talking to their HR guy at a career fair, they start you off at around $30k to $35k or so. After training is finished, they slowly ween you onto commission only. Pretty nice that its not all at once you have to be selling to make money. Their average on the sales floor is $70k. Some more, some less. Not to mention there's a spiff list... after you sell so many items you get one free... in particular Digidesign stuff. :)

Anyway, they rock!

Wow, 20-odd responses to my candy question, not one to my question about actual studio gear! Go figure.

Well it is SWEETwater.

And as for living in Indiana: Yes it's cheaper than most places. But you get what you pay for. It's a wierd state. I was born in Indiana, have lived numerous other places, and nostalgia brought me back here. Nostalgia is a dangerous force. I'd really rather be somewhere else.

I'll be getting an order on Tuesday, so I will check. They are the first place to ever call and thank me for my order. Which was cool and all, but I gave them my wife's number since I didn't think they would ever call. Oops.
that's a pretty big oops - maybe four o's oooops :D

You said all you ordered was "cords and stuff." My snake ain't leapin' out of the cave for that. :D

I was referring to a post I made yesterday here (and today in mixing forum) about a bad monitor. Not that I'm interested in your snake.

Jumpin' Jebus man, you gotta be more specific around here! :)

But now you get to be the next state to not choose a Democratic nominee.... lucky you!

We like Indiana.

Everything I've looked up they're the same as MF.

Yep. That was my point. :D

And if you find it cheaper, I'm sure they'd match it.

Cool. I'll have to try that. Although, I haven't really had any problems with any of the discount vendors either. Most pro audio dealers are pretty good about customer service. At least in my experience.

Yes, and it's not very often that Indiana gets to be significant politically. (with such a late primary) And perhaps I was a little hard on my home state. I was in a bad frame of mind that day. It does beat the heck out of being in Bagdad or Afganistan.

That depends on which city you are talking about. I'd rather walk through Bagdad than Gary or East Chicago. You'd have a better chance of not being shot.

If you live in Indiana and order from Sweetwater then you have to pay sales tax. Sweetwater's prices are already too high because the shipping is added in so they can pretend to give you "free shipping". I also don't like their "stalker" type sales tactics. Pretending to be your best buddy just to sell you gear is really transparent.

Where are you shopping, bro?

I stand corrected. :)

Well, Sweetwater managed to screw up my simple order. I did get candy though!

I ordered a pair of pretty expensive monitor pads, and one of the ones they sent me was obviously either a return or a demo. It had a fair amount of damage to the upper piece of neoprene. Not worth sending back since you cant see it with my monitors on it, but still kinda pisses me off. It's back to discount brokers for me......

Send it back, they'll make right. Make enough noise you may get something as a apology
