It is directly related to sperm cell count for males and number of ovum for females.

just kidding. It works like this. If somebody is nice and posts something that helps or amuses you then you can give them props for it, or kudos, or green chicklets - whatever.

and vice-versa.

oh yeah and the opposite, if they piss you off or you piss them off you get negative rep/

It takes a certain number of posts for newbies before they are allowed to do this. I'm not sure the actual number - maybe 50, not sure.
