So what do you like? Grovers, Sperzels, Gotohs?

I like Sperzel locking.

EDIT: Machine Heads, please.

Or, I like my StroboSoft.

I dunno, apl - I have different tuners on just about all of my guitars and they all seem to work fine. The Grovers on my '67 Martin are still very smooth after all these years so that's a testament to their quality.

From time to time I promise to take some pics and post 'em but I haven't done so yet. Life intrudes, you know?

But I promise to try to remember to think about it. :p
 
planet waves auto trim tuners are fantastic. they stay in tune and they cut the excess string.
 
I thought that he meant, um, tuners, too. I was going to say the perfectly working Conn Strobotuner that I got off eBay for 12 bucks.

Yep. It's my best eBay score. I saw it up with no bids and a starting price of ten bucks, and it was 4 hours to the end of the auction. I bid 12 bucks and went to bed. The first surprise was when I checked it the next morning, I had won it. The second surprise was when I got it a few days later, it worked.

It was being sold by an antique store (it's the old style in the brown clamshell case) and sold "as is", so nobody else bid on it, I figured for 12 bucks it would be worth a shot even if it was total junk.

I've had it for more than a year and I use it all the time. Cool, huh?
 
My Fender Stratocaster (Mexican) already had Sperzel locking tuners, when I bought it. I have two sets of 3x3 Wilkinson locking tuners, for my Gibson Les Pauls, in preparation for adding a Bigsby B5 to each. I don't yet know how well Wilkinson tuners work, but the Sperzel tuners do a good job.

Gotoh 510s, hands down, no competition. Followed (distantly) by Waverly's (if you want that look). The Gotoh 510 locking tuners are better than the Sperzels too. The lock automatically.


I do have to admit, though, that the Planet Waves Auto-Trim tuners are kind of neat, though. A bit too clever for me to trust, but neat.
