I currently have 2 delta 1010's and if any of you have read any recent posts that I have made in this section of the board you will see that I have been interrested in upgrading my converters... Today I was thinking that maybe I could continue to use the stock 1010's to record drums since I usually use 8 to 12 mics on drums...but to record everything else, maybe I should look into a 2 channel apogee or Lucid or something....what are your thoughts on this and maybe you can shed some light on how they would be included in my setup...I guess I would need a card with a digital in....my 1010's dont offer this...

Honestly, you would be better off spending money on better mics, room treatment, a nice preamp, or a host of other stuff

Read this first before considering a high end converter:

Delta 1010s do have digital ins btw. They are the little white ones on the card itself

Could you submit a list of your other gear (monitors, headphones, microphones, preamps)?

It has a sense to upgrade converter to a higher league if your other gear is also in the higher league.

Give us also a price limit and number of the channels you need.

Not sure what he's done in the room treatment area but now that I have treated my room I'm disappointed in mixes that were done in a room with no treatment. Anything I had recorded with a mic basically sucks. The mixes I'm getting now are way better and it's not just because I have better A/D/DA. It's because I can now hear what I was not hearing before. Plus in a unteated room your picking up all the bad artifacts that go with it when using a mic.

Honestly, I'd rather use a Behringer recording rig in a treated room than a Lucid/Apogee etc setup in a untreated room/:D

Assuming your room is well treated, you could get a two channel A/D and clock your 1010's off of it. When you record drums, record the OH's through the better converters.

I also have a total of 18 accoustic panels. I have 12 - 2 in 703 panels, and 6 - 4in mineral wool panels. Some of these are mounted to the wall...but several are on stands so they can be moved when necessary.

I would consider a nice pre/strip, it would definitely add to your gear list and make the most impact

Based on your other gear I would stay with Deltas. They are a sufficient partner to your other gear.

Remember that what is influencing quality of the sound most is first acoustic treatment of the room, next microphones and preamp and in the end used converters. If you want any sound upgrade buy some high end vocal mike and a corresponding preamp.

I have a treated room, Audiophile A192, Adams A7, SPL Goldmike preamp and my main vocal mike is ADK CE - so generally have a simalar setup like you.
Some time ago I solved whether to buy external Lavry AD10 converter for my microphone records and later on decided that it does not have a sense.
The converter would be a different league than the rest of my setup and I do not plan to upgrade everything I have to a higher level.

Yes, and even when someone posts that their room is already treated, it's usually not treated well enough. Especially with bass traps. All current sound cards and A/D/A converters are flat within 1 dB from 20 Hz to 20 KHz. But rooms vary all over the place. It's impossible to make any domestic size room perfectly flat. The more bass traps you have, the closer you'll get.
