Why Not Elixirs?

The internet is a great place to have heated arguments over important things like guitar strings!:D

And still hasn't learned?

Just because this is the internet doesn't mean the general rules and guidelines of society no longer apply.

Its a known fact that there are some highly respected people on this board, and there are some punk kids too.

But while we are in open opinion mode, I disapprove of the whole argument that is starting here.

Adam

Learned what? Not to post an opinon? You are so funny! :D

And are you directing your "general rules and guidelines of society no longer apply" to me? What thread have you been reading? Are you a native speaker of English?

Seriously folks...let's move along. There's nothing more to see here...

I am perfectly capable of defending myself in this or any other Internet forum.

Guy's I have nothing against tdukex or anyone else on this forum for that matter. If he wants my advice or help in the future thats fine with me and I'd be happy to accept his in his field of expertise.. You can talk to me how you like and I'll respond how I like. Thats how it works on the interwebs as far as I can see. All I did in the first place was point out that most people with a qualified opinion about these damn strings don't like them. If any of you lot do thats fine as I've said every time I've posted in this thread.

On the bigger picture if anyone has an issue with any advice I give thats fine call me out on it. I tend to jump in and correct factually incorrect statements because the guitar world if full of them and I don't have the inclination to dance around the issues here because no one is paying me for my time. I'm not too big to stand corrected or accept a difference of opinion or interpretation. In real life I have to be nice most of the time and most of the people I meet are decent so thats fine. Online people can be whatever they choose, theres the difference. I'm sure we'd all get along fine down the pub..;)

In the meantime, USE WHATEVER BLOODY STRINGS YOU LIKE. ;)

Lets move on shall we. We've done this to death. Now what about plectrums? Anyone got a winner for that one?

Well, while the jury's still out on my next set of acoustic strings, I can tell you that I ONLY use Dunlop 1.0 mm nylon picks (the black ones). It's a clinically established fact that they are superior to all other plectrums.

On this, there can be no debate. :D

Sorry gotta disagree, pure tortoise shell for me.

You think I'm joking?.;)

My Taylor 710CE came equipped with Elixirs. I switched to Nanowebs, and then, when Guitar Center was having an issue with Elixirs, I switched to EXP's. That particular axe was set up for mediums. The Taylor is a little bright, so I use medium Phosphor Bronze. My old Epiphone is darker, and prefers lights, so I use 80/20 lights on it. I have that kind of sweat that eats guitar strings, so coated strings are a big bonus, aside from reducing finger noise. In my experience, EXP's sound better, and last longer than Elixirs. I know Light is very knowledgable, and hates Elixirs. A question for Light- Do you hate EXP's also? I'm curious.-Richie

Had mine removed

Local anesthetic, or did they have to put you out for that? It must've hurt.

I bought a three pack of Elixer strings once to try them out. I gave two sets away.

I like the pearse 80/20's. Lately I've been using E.B. earthwoods. D'addarios on the electrics, and GHS on my twelve string.

Ahh...that's the beauty of it--I don't think you're joking! And when I say my beloved Dunlop Nylons are clinically proven to be superior, the only clinic I'm talking about is the one in my mind.

But that's the only one I need.

Tortoise shell --- pfffft!

(Now we got a barn burner goin'! :D )

Ah sorry missed this bit.

You are of course correct that the black ones are simply best.:D

I'm not going to tell you guys what kind of picks I use, only that I am very particular and a bit neurotic about them, sorta like Dumbo and the Magic Feather. They are not made any more, so I have to pay an exorbitant price for them NOS on eBay.

I'm not joking, either.

right!

No one talks to Muttley like that!

Adam

There are some guys that post on here that have earned the respect of most of the rest of us. I listen & learn when they speak. There have been some times when I didn't like what they said but I didn't reject it hands down either. After giving it some time, I usually understand what they were saying.

When a guy knows his stuff, he can have very strong opinions about it. Sometimes that will ruffle feathers but in the end, everyone is still entitled to their own opinion.

I personally appreciate these guys who are "professionals" giving their qualified opinions about questions that are asked. It is a great source of knowledge for those of us who are still learning.

Thanks Harvey, Muttley and Light. There are others too but these 3 in particular have been a big help to me.

SAMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCH!

Opinions, opinions. For every plucker who dislikes tortoise shell plectrums there is another plucker just as experienced or qualified (or not) who does.

Every guit is different. So is every player. Don't listen to others. Just pluck the damn strings on your guitar. You will either pluck them or you won't. Why do you care what other pluckers think? Are we plucking your guitar for you? Are you going to decide if you are a plucker based on some consensus here? And, BTW, this plucking question has already been asked and answered way too many times on this board.
:D

Plucking plectrum pushers...I play fingerstyle!:D

actually, I have a lot of respect for your views (in the mic fourm) too Big Kenny. Richie Monroe knows all about AKG mics.

There are a lot of guys on this forum that know what they are talkin' about.

while I'm "kissin' up" ... might as well get the rest too.

seriously, I have learned a lot from the guys on HR.
